KOLKATA: At least 16 people were killed across seven districts in Bengal's violence-ridden rural vote on Saturday. The body count, taking into account the 19 lives lost over the past month since the June 8 poll date notification, stood at 35 at the end of the day.

Murshidabad also had 200 people across the political spectrum being hurt in Saturday's violence. Officials said beds had to be added to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital's casualty ward to tend to the injured.

The state's ruling party, Trinamool Congress, took the biggest body blow, with nine of its workers dying on Saturday. Congress claimed that three of those killed were its supporters; BJP and CPM lost two workers each.
