Scrapped Air India plane gets stuck underneath foot overbridge near Delhi airport
NEW DELHI: A video went viral on social media on Sunday morning, showing an Air India plane stuck underneath a foot overbridge on the Delhi-Gurugram highway outside the Delhi airport, leaving people perplexed as to how the plane got there.
However, the airline confirmed there was no mishap involved, with the plane being an old, scrapped aircraft which has been sold by Air India and was being transported by the plane’s owner.
“This is an old, scrapped aircraft which has already been sold off by us. There is no additional information as it involves the person to whom it has been sold off,” said an Air India spokesperson.
In the video, vehicles can be seen passing through one side of the highway while the other side appears to largely be blocked via the aircraft.
The nose of the aircraft and half of its body has also crossed underneath the foot overbridge before the top half gets stuck.
A Delhi airport offi al, when contacted, also said no flight or active aircraft had been involved in an in dent.
“The aircraft certainly does not belong to the Delhi airport’s fleet and in the video, it is being transported without any wings. It appears to be a scrapped plane and the driver may have made a judgement of error while transporting it,” the offi al said.
In a similar in dent in 2019, a truck carrying an abandoned India Post aircraft had got stuck under a bridge in West Bengal’s Durgapur, with the driver being unable to judge the height of the bridge correctly.
status of Air India today, literally
scrapped and stuck!
Tata bought it, maybe
This is a classic picture of Air India under a heavy de t of 25000 crores- The bridge just represents that only. This bridge is like a shroud before its unceremonial burial about to happen any day!!
Astonishing! Isn't the in dent being played down .. by stating that it's a sold aircraft ?
Has it been sold..
What about the traffic issues this must be causing on that street?
Citizens of Delhi are used to the inconvenience of traffic jams with the farmers' prest, this one will be easier to deals with than the farmer's prest.
They could carefully deflate the tires of the carrier vehicle and once it gets free, after towing below the over-bridge, reinflate the tires.
This infact is the ‘True picture’ of Air IndiaAll these 75 years Air India bleeded the Public Exchequer. Its accumulated losses of 25000 Crores at least.
Reminds me of Family man season 2 scenario where the fighter jet is transported by road
Was it 'stolen' from the airport by thieves like bikes and other vehicles?
if sold, Air India logo should have been erased! or is this a new divestment method.
Modiji my PM
Someone wanted it taken home, but got struck. What a luck.
Modiji my PM
What a screwed excuse by AI spokesman. Idiot he has screwed the bridge over it. What type of guys work for AI?
thorough investigation required of who authorized this scrap sale.
looting of leftovers started already before it is handed over to the private sector.
it must be blocking the highway too, which the presstitute conveniently omitted to mention. The persons responsible should be arrested for public safety hazard.
entire plane sold to a scrap picker?!
Thank God it's sold
