Indian Air Force begins trial in Rajasthan's Jalore to land fighter planes on national highways
JAISALMER: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has started preparations for landing fighter planes on the national highways.
In an initial trial, the Air Force on Friday landed two fighter helicopters between Gandhav and Agdava in Chitalvana area in Jalore on the runway made under Bharatm project. Officers of IAF and NHAI along with Jalore police administration were present and had made strict security arrangements.
In war and emergency situations, by landing fighter planes and helicopters on national highways, IAF can give successful shape to some operations. The defence ministry and road transport ministry together had made a scheme for the purpose.
On the request and recommendation of the defence ministry, the road and transport ministry identified around two dozen highways in the country where fighter planes can be landed in case of warlike situations.
A senior Army officer and a senior officer of NHAI said that such national highways have been identified in Rajasthan where fighter planes can land. Bharatm national highway passing from Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer, Bikaner, Jalore, etc., is included in Rajasthan. These places have not been revealed at present.
Good. Since fuel prices have increased roads are not much used. Trials are suitable now.
Sales of Cars are still moving upward .
It would have risen much more if fuel prices were not this much! Imagine the GDP growth!
Anti-progress mind set. You will never be happy with nations progress.
There are NO fighter helicopters in the world but only ATTACK HELICOPTERS!!!
Is attacking not a form of fighting ?
You should know the difference between ATTACK and FIGHTER in military terms! Fighter is one which is capable of fighting back if attacked! Attack helicopters don't have that capability! They only ATTACK!.
Nehru didn't land any planes on road. Superb
It seems to be a very good decision by IAF. Operational times it will be a boon for them.
Frankly, Pakistan did that 15 years ago on their motorways. Why is it always a reactive action by India?
India has done this in Bengal few years back! It was done in Rajasthan for the first time!
India follows a Guru always. such is our DNA
Good sense of timing....... many highway roads see thinner traffic ---- would love the big birds to land on them gracefully...... for a change.
Are Rafales coming? Can we take photos?

What Eishonower did during second world War tines on American Roads, IAF trying now....Good initiative
Our NH quality will improve
Good. Commendable practice. IAF should also do the same on high ways in, Sikim, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar as these are crucial border states than Rajasthan. The defense structures in these states should be beefed up significantly to fight much greater enemy.
A feat which Pakistani fighter pilots have been doing for a long time. IAF has a long way to learn the mastery of flying jets. Anyway good luck to them.
This was done in Rajasthans jalore for the first time! This has been done earlier in Punjab and in many states bordering China!!!

IAF pilots have practiced landing fighter aircrafts on highways a few years back. Pakistani airforce may need to land their J-7 & J-17 on highways very frequently.
It is,a good idea one way. I am not a strategic expert, but the road has to be observed and prected in conflict as the enemy can make a surprise landing and dischrge a large body of troops for quick comando action and disengage the same way. There were innumerable instances in war wherein the triops firstcyryvto occupy air fields for large scale operations.
