‘Mission accomplished’, tweets Swaraj, as consulate distributes food to 10,000 starving Indians in Saudi Arabia
NEW DELHI: As many as 10,000 Indians who were on the brink of starvation in Saudi Arabia, after being laid off, finally got some relief after the Indian consulate and community there pitched in to distribute almost 16,000 kilograms of food to them, minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted Sunday morning.
Indian Consulate n Indian Community Jeddah food stuff distribution mission accomplished at 245 AM today morning. Kudos to all.
Indian Consulate in association with Indian Community Jeddah distributed 15,475 kgs of food stuff besides eggs, spices, salt etc n 1850 no 1/2
“Large number of Indians have lost their jobs in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The employers have not paid wages closed down their factories. As a result our brothers and sisters in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are facing extreme hardship,” the external affairs minister tweeted.
And yet, these people wont come back to India because they know that despite these issues, their lives are better in Saudi Arabia than in India.
Saudi Arabia is one of the worst employers no human rights , they nearly enslave people , let the oil run out , they will be on their knees with a bowl.
The Govt did a good job in providing food to the stranded labourers. But it is simply too much to claim that the mission is accomplished. The mission has only now started. It cannot be said to be completed till ways are found to assure them of decent jobs/earnings.
thanks to the govt and the Indian community and exactly this is the solidarity we should show in time of crisis

Great work by MEA. Hats off to them.
Finally we have a government which cares for it”s people, no matter where they are.
Saudi Arabia is one of the wealthiest nations in the world. The fact that they allowed Indians to starve shows how little respect they have for India and Indians. They would never have allowed this to happen to citizens of white countries. But I suppose when we are poor, we have to swallow such treatment.
How long these stranded people will be fed? The govt either ask the Saudi authorities to employe them or ask them to return to India. This cannot go on.
