NEW DELHI: A whopping investment of USD 120 billion will be made in next five years in the cash-strapped railways which is in the process of upgradation and expansion, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said on Tuesday.

印度铁道部长普拉布说,未来5年内,1200亿美元的巨额投资将会进入资金紧缺的铁路部门。目前印度铁路正处于升级和扩张阶段。

He highlighted the challenges faced by railways like ticketless travelling and bad condition of toilets in trains and sought innovative ideas from the youth to address these, with a promise of awards for best among them.

他强调了铁路部门目前面临的挑战,比如无票乘车和列车上厕所环境恶劣,并向年轻人征求解决问题的创新想法,承诺对最优秀的想法予以奖励。

Addressing a gathering of students and alumni from IITs and other premier institutes like National Law University and London School of Economics, he said the railways is facing many challenges which need to be addressed.

Railways needs massive investment for upgradation and expansion of its network, Prabhu said.

“There has been no investment in the railways for the last 20-25 years… There will be an investment of USD 120 billion in the next five years to catch up with the backlog,” he said.

Govt is giving one sided picture! Few days back I waited hours in a local railway station for a journey of about 8 km by spending Rs,10. Government did not increase the frequency of the local trains for Kolkata suburb, but expects people to travel like a goat and pay them as human! In the south part of India, Indian Railways run almost semi-empty trains as no one bothers for local trains as road transport is efectively better and quicker! So in one words, minister pays some attentions to long distance trains but neglected local services over the years! May I know how much money railways makes/looses with metro services?

几天前,我要坐一段8公里路程的火车,票价是10卢比,我在当地火车站等了数小时。政府不提高开往加尔各答郊区的火车的发车频率,指望人们买的是客运票,却把人当做羊来拉。

在印度南方,印度铁路几乎是半空跑的,没有人会去坐市内火车,公路交通要便捷多了!

总之,铁道部长注意到了长途火车,却疏忽了市内通勤的火车!

Seal the platforms like airports to only allow passengers with tickets that will be a first line of defence against ticket less travel. This will also clean the platforms and remove menace of beggars, touts and anti social elements.

类似机场,把站台封起来,只有持票乘客才能进去。此举能有效解决无票乘车现象。

而且,站台能保持干净整洁,乞丐会不见踪影,兜售东西的小贩也会难觅踪迹,把反社会分子隔离在外。

Suresh Prabhu’s arithmetic implies that for this financial year 2015-2016, an investment of USD 24 BN ( Rs 144000 crore) will be made . Let us see if that happens first, before evaluating further plans of the Railways.

It matters not how much money you pump into Indian Railways. It matter where it is used and how it is used. Take the example of Air India. Nevertheless, my good wishes are with the Railway Minister.

  2. 5年投资1200亿美元,平均下来每年240亿美元(这其中还不知道多少被贪污或者根本没这么多钱)折合人民币也就1500亿,中国每年光投高铁这一块就8000多亿,所以5年后,印度和中国的差距将进一步拉大。
