Imagine two young men, both around twenty years old, are sitting down to dinner tonight on two different aircraft carriers, thousands of miles apart, and both are thinking about home. One is holding a tray with his own individual portions on it. The other may be eating in a dining tradition where dishes are commonly shared at the center of the table.

美国航母采用自选分餐制：水兵拿餐盘自助挑选食物，餐食种类丰富，一天多餐。美国航母人员来自各地，没有统一的 “家乡味道”。这种模式尊重个人选择，自主选餐是留给士兵为数不多的个人选择权，以此慰藉每个人独自的思乡情绪。

中国航母是合餐共享模式：菜品摆在桌子中间，大家一同分享，标配热食、汤、热水或茶水。在中国文化里，吃饭本身就是集体活动，代表归属感。一起吃饭能强化集体意识，缓解孤立感；一起夹菜、互相照应，也是在潜移默化培养战友间彼此关照的习惯。同时中国人普遍看重热食，米饭、面食这类主食是一餐里不可缺少的部分。而中国各地口味差异巨大，航母厨房需要同时提供多种风味菜品，兼顾不同饮食习惯。

i don't know the food in the army, but i can say the food in China's colleges is much better than that in American's colleges.

On my ship, the food could be good or disgusting, it all depended on who was in charge of the galley. We had a chief who made the best chili I ever ate and his chow mein was excellent. when I look at the condiments and salad dressing in this video I almost had to laugh. on a 6 month Med cruise we'd run out of everything in the first two months. Even salt was gone, much less pepper. When the food ws bad, the entire crew was miserable.

On Youtube, you can find Americans who spent years living in China , would become acustomed to Chinese food which they find much better than Harmburgers, Pizzas, Lasagna because food is a cultural thing.

That is incorrect. They do not pay for meals. They do have store options and some with Starbucks that they pay with a unique pay card for ship use.

I don’t believe Chinese sailors sit at a table sharing food. It’s not realistic to set up a table like home or restaurant while ship may swing around and hard to clean and keep food warm. Not to mention sanitation concern. Only officers quarter may have table set up. Regular sailors eat just like American sailors buffet style
