Asian Games: Indian Women's Hockey Team Beats China To Win Historic Gold, Books LA28 Olympics Spot

The Indian women's hockey team clinched a historic gold medal after defeating defending champions China at the Asian Games, securing qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The victory marks a major milestone for women's hockey, recalling India's last gold medal win in 1982. The team had previously missed out on qualifying for the Paris Olympics after finishing fourth at the Tokyo Games. Former hockey coach Mir Ranjan Negi hailed the achievement, describing it as a great day for Indian women's hockey and noting that the squad played with determination after missing podium finishes at the World Cup and Olympics. He highlighted goalkeeper Savita's penalty stroke save as a crucial turning point in the final. Negi urged sustained support and consistent management from Hockey India, the Odisha government, and sponsors to maintain momentum as both the men's and women's national teams prepare for future international tournaments.

If India needs a lot of golds to be next to China in the medals tally, it needs to focus on events that massively inflate gold medals like swimming and gymnastics ‑ 50‑60 gold medals here that India does not compete at all. These medals go to China, Japan and SK only. Team sports are ok but they get you just 1 gold medal after 2 weeks of efforts. Swimming and athletics medals are won by the same athlete multiple times. India should hire exceptional coaches to develop swimming and gymnastics talent.

Raining gold medals is true but for China. 162 gold vs India's 19 holds no comparison at all

It took the "Goal of the Tournament" and "Save of the Tournament" to bring home the Gold

A Historic hockey victory by our Indian women at the Asian games once again proved that they are the golden girls of India

The Indian goalkeeper saved the day, her penalty stroke save was excellent. The goal scored by Lalremsiami was out of the world. We have to make our Girls a bit stronger, we look small and frail, but tenacious & hard working, Congratulations to Our GIRLS

Recently in wc we beat germany 3‑1 drew with england 0‑0 china 2‑2 australia 0‑0 and finished 5th in overall and in this asian games beat japan, korea, china qualified for LA28 olympics we need to stay consistent we will surely get medal there and today our defence was so good as usual but savitas penalty stroke save was historic moment for us thanks team india

gayathriadiga7653
I hope the seasoned Savitha Punia (The Wall) will continue to be there as Goal Keeper till LA‑2028.

I was witness to the 1982 DELHI ASIAD GAMES gold medal which Indian women won and Indian men lost the same to traditional rival pakistan in the finals

I think WC against China was 2‑2 not 0‑0 ...we were actually leading twice before they equalized

nagesh5452
India scored 1‑0 then china 1‑1 india 2‑1 china 2‑2

desi_patriot
The way they played in the recent WCUP, they could hv even beaten teams like Netherlands.

balasubramanian9675
Wonderful GREAT AMAZING full CREDIT to MAHILA HOCKEY team and heart breaking performance against our EVIL ENEMY CHINA and I am sure even in LA OLYMPICS OUR TEAM will do extremely well and be in last 4 stages and they have to break the walls of EUROPEAN teams , know the tricks and crack their strategy by viewing lots of their videos know their attacking strategy and be ready for TOUGH GAMES

goutambhattacharya6114
Japan is a lucky hunting ground for our womens hockey team. If not wrong before hitting rock bottom in womens hockey in 24 & failed to be at Paris they were in Tokyo in 2020 lost the bronze medal match & slipped to 4th spot but post last Nations cup womens have not looked back. Congrats! Kudos to them

ourstruly1234
Terrific defense from India..and great goal kee .on paper China were the superior team..but team showed great discipline and stuck to team plan..
