The US decision to revert the name of the Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) to Pacific Command (PACOM) may appear symbolic, but it carries important strategic signals. Coming at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was set to meet US President Donald Trump after 16 months, the move raises questions about Washington’s regional priorities.

1. Everyone must understand that no one will help India in Himalyan border with China, not anyone will help in Indian Ocean Region,
2. Only country that has capacity and capability to help is USA, but they have their own strategy, if your interests align or you become the follower of their strategy then only they will help.
3. Current move is the strategy to decrease the leverage of India. Also they know that now India consider China as a enemy country, and will not shake hands with chinese. Best strategy is focus on Pacific as their main theatre.

The entire Middle East has to be monitored and controlled from the Indian ocean - as happened in the Iran war recently. So yes, US has solid stakes in the Indian ocean.

I don’t know why some in India think US could be a trustworthy ally. It can never be. It has abandoned even Taiwan. It has lost every war it fought after World War II. India should stop having too much expectation from the US in any partnership, alliances, grou, etc. etc.
USA is the last country any country should trust, especially long term.
