With respect to the impression of China, there are two groups of Japanese, one group has been to China (and see and feel everything they experience), and the other group has never been to China (and know everything from the media).

As a Japanese person, I can say this: many Japanese people don’t really know Chinese people. What they see are tourists and the image of China as a threat portrayed in the media. But Chinese people are diverse—surprisingly so—and among them are truly wonderful individuals.

Well, there are good and bad in all races. Even among Han Chinese, there are big differences in behaviour and mindset due to different ideology eg Taiwanese, Hongkongers vs Mainlanders.

My mother lived, worked, and attended university in Japan for 8 years. She perfected the language and respected the cultural norms, yet found that many people were very disrespectful to her before knowing anything about her. Some asked her “do you even have TVs in China?”, and a boyfriend of hers straight up broke up with her after finding out she was Chinese (not that she hid it), etc etc. There is nothing wrong with a homogeneous society, but the Japanese tend to only see what the media says of China or judge based on tourists. While I am always ashamed of rude Chinese tourists, I do feel it’s a little unfair to immediately jump to prejudiced conclusions or discriminate based on ethnicity— which the Japanese seem quite good at, even towards half-Japanese people. I hope East Asia will be at peace some day.

Most people aren't china experts or even care much for the situation, so most people will be informed by japanese media. 90% of japanese people having a somewhat bad impression seems plausible

Media is really a big problem here in Japan I think. A lot of incidents happened in Japan made by foreigners from different countries everyday but only those caused by Chinese people are reported on TV.

Chinese people are the people who respect their ancestors the most, there's even a tradition of praying to their ancestors twice a year, the problem is that you will soon pay for your sins in the past, remember China continues to get stronger.

Having seen Mainland Chinese tourists firsthand I concur that many of them act rude and lack manners. The Taiwanese Chinese are much better behaved.

I am sure that person-to-person most Chinese are good people. But what Chinese leaders want and do are not the same thing. Japan's military buildup is only sensible in the face of Chinese pressure.

As a half-Chinese person I would myself say Japan ought to build its own military, but what Japan really needs to be wary of is following America blindly. America stands to lose nothing from war in Asia – rather America has consistently profited from wars beyond its own shores. If war breaks out in Asia, it is Japan and China who will both hurt the most, not America.

As an American who loves Japan but who has also traveled to China, I have to say that the people aren't the problem. The media seems to have a job to make us enemies of each other which is unnecessary. I will say that if people travel to Japan or other countries, they should be respectful and remember their manners. You don't have to be taken in by binary truth. No country is all bad or all good.

As my personal experience
During my visit to Pakistan I was amazed to see how helpful Pakistanis are.
I find them to be the most beautiful and attractive.
I also noticed that Pakistanis are white in terms of skin color.
I mean majority of Pakistanis are white like westerners.
And I also noticed that most of the skin color of Indians is dark and black.

就我的个人经历来说：

去巴基斯坦的时候，我很惊讶巴基斯坦人居然这么乐于助人。

I am Japanese and I have been to many countries and also went to Shanghai which was great experience and fun I don’t want to dislike Chinese people but personally I still I feel the overall of Chinese people are a bit rude from my experience, maybe it takes time for them to be mannered well, whenever I go to travel overseas Japanese impression is so good so I am proud of that!!

我是日本人，去过很多国家，也去过上海，那次经历特别好、特别开心。我不想讨厌中国人，但就我个人经历来说，还是觉得中国人整体上有点粗鲁。或许他们还需要时间培养良好的礼仪。每次去国外旅行，日本人的口碑都特别好，这点我很自豪！
