A U.S. Marine has been indicted over the alleged murder and robbery of a Japanese woman in Okinawa, intensifying scrutiny of American troops stationed in Japan. Lance Corporal Devin Jacob Ballard is accused of strangling 39-year-old Anna Yagi with a telephone cord inside a hotel in Naha before stealing her belongings. Ballard has denied the allegations. The case has sparked protests in Okinawa and Tokyo, prompted condemnation from Japanese leaders and led to curfew and alcohol restrictions for U.S. personnel. The indictment has also renewed longstanding concerns over crimes involving American service members and the U.S. military presence in Okinawa.

I wonder if the US will plead to have him serve the sentence in the US. No way because some President on his last day in office can pardon him. But do you remember the Ambassador's wife in the UK who ran down some boy (death) on a bicycle and was spirited out of the counter using "diplomatic immunity" which she was not entitled to. The US refused the UK to question her about the accident.
