Today I want to show you what a middle-class home looks like in a small city in southern China.

This city has a population of around 500,000 people. I take you inside a local family’s home and show you their daily living environment. Like many families shaped by the one-child policy, this is a three-member household.

Through this home, you can get a closer look at how ordinary people live in today’s China.

今天我带大家看看中国南方一座小城市里，中产家庭的住宅是什么样子。

这座城市人口约50万。走进当地一户人家，展示他们的日常居住环境。和许多受独生子女政策影响的家庭一样，这是一个三口之家。

透过这个家，你可以更直观地了解当下中国普通人的生活状态。

It’s about the size of middle class family in the USA … only our homes are mostly stand alone single family dwellings…. Our is 2000 square foot.

Still a very good and spacious apartment for a middle class family. I have been to Uk , people hardly can afford a big house. Their houses are usually very small and not spacious as well.

Some families put bars on window, it is because they worry their kids falling down from the window. I found a family put bars on windown even they live in the 24th floor, and they told me because his daughter is 3 years old.

有些家装防盗窗，是怕孩子掉出窗外。我见过一户住24楼的都装了，他们说因为女儿才3岁。

Governments should not interfere with families in any way. what size they are, what they eat, what sort of health regime or medicine they take, what work they do, where they live, what traveling they do, how they educate their kids, ... Govts should only control corporations, not individuals..

政府不该以任何方式干涉家庭。不管家里几口人、吃什么、怎么养生、做什么工作、住哪里、去哪旅行、怎么教育孩子……政府只管企业就行，别管个人。

@RealChinaWithJake I am an older woman now and probably will not get to visit unfortunately. I do watch a lot of videos of people who show your beautiful country and take me through the mountains to the east to the west and to the north. I had no idea how diverse China is with different geographic, locations and different ethnic people. I am particularly interested in old Chinese porcelain and I have seen where it originally came out of and how they still produce it today. Also, there is a place that has the most expensive green tea that is handpicked by ladies and sold for a great deal of money. And I think there is large Buddhist statues in the north somewhere. I’m not that much interested in cities anymore, but I love the culture and the beauty of the different areas. As I have said, I think it is good for everyone now with our ability to visit countries and meet other people through the Internet to learn about other parts of our world. What I see in your country is mostly very beautiful, but I have followed other people in other countries where I’ve seen the most horrific places. We must help these other places through better trade and payment systems to help them achieve a better life as well. I must say that China has really accomplished so much in such a short time to help alleviate poverty and create good places for people to live

我年纪大了，可惜大概率去不了中国了。我看了很多视频，跟着博主走遍中国的东西南北和山川。我以前不知道中国地理这么多样，还有这么多少数族群。我特别喜欢中国古瓷器，看过它的发源地和现在的制作工艺。还有个地方产顶级绿茶，由女性手工采摘，售价很高。我记得中国北方有大型佛像。我现在不太爱看城市，更喜欢各地的文化和风景。现在能通过互联网了解世界各国，我觉得很好。我看到的中国大多很美，但也看过其他国家很糟糕的地方。我们应该通过更好的贸易和支付体系帮助这些地方，让人们过上好日子。不得不说，中国在短时间内减贫、改善民生，成就太大了。

Squat toilets are the most hygienic option in public areas. I would never sit on a public toilet seat. Who knows if I could catch an infectious disease, or if someone has urinated on the seat.

公共场所用蹲便器最卫生。我绝对不会坐公共马桶，谁知道会不会传染病，或者有人尿在上面。

surprised no gas cook top but an electric smooth top, thought gas was standard.......no bars on window either.

@RealChinaWithJake 5 bedrooms with family of 3, but I am an American and we can have as few or as many kids as we want. I adopted a child from China in 2007. Just seems weird to have so many apartments with so many rooms built.

I find its very minimulist no plants indoors very simple place we too hang clothes outside in Australia is best way otherwise we have drying rack inside we do not use electrical dryers much. We also have big fishpond outside with lots of goldfish it was nice to see goldfish inside small tank it is very clean apartment I like Western style toilet and it easy to clean very nice and I guess easy to get to work and school.

In the UK this standard of living for a teacher and a government employee is not possible. Even in a depressed city £100000 would not buy a two bedroom apartment of half that size. Even a detached house with four bedrooms and two bathrooms would only have 160 square meters. When you look at the cost of energy and food in China your cousin is probably twice as well off as a similar couple in the UK.

The one child policy is abolished long time ago. Now, China has low population growth.

Her cousin might have been too old in 2016 and then in 2021. When they first started letting some have 2 kids it was very specific. First it was only a married couple who each were singleton’s themselves. From the 70’s they said have 2 from they 80’s they said 1 and they said it for decades, a generation. How to convince people they are serious to let them. Ridiculous number of bedrooms for three people but my house is the same. We adopted one child from China in 2007. The program basically halted. It is good they are letting married people have up to three kids. However ideally they would stay out of it and let people have zero to 20 as they wish when they wish. It is crowded in China.

It’s very common to have hard floors here , they are easier to clean.do you prefer carpets in your own home?

@RealChinaWithJake Yes, somewhat. I live in the US. My house is all hardwood floors on the 1st floor downstairs. The upstairs 2nd floor is all carpet except for the two bathrooms and laundry room. This is fairly common for houses with two levels that are under 20 years old

Here in India every one prefer two children and mostly have one boy,one girl or both boys or both girls but more chance in village if someone have two daughter they want third one,but now 70 percent have 2 children And 30 % have more than two because of son preference Now mostly want one sone and one daughter,they don't want two sons or two daughter
