China coveted stealth capabilities starting in the 1980s but lagged severely in aerospace technology back then. Its aviation industry matured in the 2000s, nurturing advanced indigenous fighters. Official hints about a new long-range bomber emerged around the mid-2010s, with public confirmation of the H-20 development in 2016. Promotional footage later teased a B-2-like flying-wing outline, yet the original expected 2020 service deadline was missed. Chinese officials have only given vague "coming soon" remarks ever since without solid timelines.

The U.S. defense community judges such advanced bombers need over a decade of development. Even if unveiled eventually, the H-20 may fail to match the B-2 or upcoming B-21 in true combat performance; Beiing might rush its debut merely for strategic prestige.

While doubts linger over its concrete status, the analysis deems the H-20 program genuinely underway. China generally fulfills major military development plans despite occasional data exaggeration, unlike hollow Russian showcase projects. Still, critical details including its rollout schedule, finalized specs and real combat competence remain unconfirmed to date.

Perhaps they are just fine tuning rather than getting stuck with a dozen of the old J20s that need overhaul to be in line with the modern and latest version of it… or, to be in time for deployment on its nuclear carrier
