It is just called the "Greater Bay Area" because it isn't a single "city". Even within the big cities, they have multiple cores. For example, Guangzhou already has two cores - the old city core, and a new core with supertall buildings further east. A third core is now being established another 10 kilometres further down the river. In Shenzhen, Qianhai is a new core on reclaimed land far to the west of the original core around Futian. It's just a big metropolitan area where 60+ million people live, with many CBDs, industrial districts, residential districts and entertainment districts.

The other comments are mostly correct. In Guangzhou, Cantonese seems to be a dying dialect among the young people. In Hong Kong, Cantonese is more common than in GZ for the youth, but I get the sense that the trend would be more towards mandarin. Hope they can keep the Cantonese language alive.

This September I was in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, both connected via the high speed railway (15 minute trip). I also did the trip to Macao using the link highway that crosses the Pearl River Delta. It is already an internet stereotype saying that China lives in the future, but I can say for sure that my country will not look like China in another 200 years at least, despite it being often considered a "rich European nation". And I'm glad the kind and hard working people of the Delta have such bright future prospects.

As well as bigger homes and robot run citybuilding, but I don't see much more population growth, so it has to use AI and robots to get further. Competition from inside china is also massive now for Shenzhen, so its hard to say how much this helps its competitive edge
