US President Donald Trump has reignited his controversial push to bring Greenland under American control, this time amid heightened diplomatic and economic tensions with Europe. Citing national security concerns and perceived threats from Russia and China, Trump has intensified his rhetoric—including refusing to rule out how far he would go to secure the Arctic island.

He has argued that Greenland is "critical" to US interests:

“If we don’t go in, Russia’s going to go in, and China’s going to go in,” he has claimed.

So, does the US really face “threats” from Moscow and Beiing vis-à-vis Greenland — or is this largely Trump’s rhetoric?

美国总统唐纳德・特朗普再度重启其颇具争议的行动，试图将格陵兰岛置于美国掌控之下，此次行动的背景是美国与欧洲的外交和经济紧张局势不断升级。特朗普以国家安全担忧、以及察觉到俄罗斯和中国带来的威胁为由，不断强化相关言论，其中还包括拒绝排除为掌控这座北极岛屿将采取的极端手段。

China has sharply pushed back against the United States, accusing Washington of exaggerating a so-called “China threat” to justify its strategic interest in Greenland. The warning comes after U.S. President Donald Trump argued that the United States needs Greenland to counter Chinese and Russian influence in the Arctic and advance his proposed Golden Dome missile defence system. Beiing insists that international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter must be respected, as geopolitical tensions over the Arctic escalate and Greenland emerges as a new flashpoint in global power politics.

中方对美方予以强硬回击，指责美方大肆渲染所谓 “中国威胁论”，为其在格陵兰谋求战略利益寻找借口。此前，美国总统唐纳德・特朗普称，美国需要掌控格陵兰，以此抗衡中俄在北极地区的影响力，推进其提出的金顶导弹防御系统。随着北极地区地缘政治紧张局势不断升级，格陵兰成为全球大国政治博弈的新闪点，中方强调，各国必须遵守国际法和《联合国宪章》宗旨原则。

I think most people in Europe, feel the American president acting like a child, who don't get the toy he want. Like a chess match, this one between the super powers with the world as the board, one side act the other react. If people really want to understand the match they should study and evaluate the strategic locations of each side. Russia would not want NATO in Ukraine so they reacted before Ukraine is formally a member of NATO, the same with USA. China, where are their strategic locations, and how they get themselves anchored there? They even builded an island in the SCS composition themselves. Yes, they play much better than USA, very subtle. But at the end of the day, it is.. everybody wants to rule the world..
