China’s Maglev Breakthrough: 700 km/h in 2 Seconds – World Record in New Transport Tech

China has stunned the world with its latest leap in high-speed transportation. Scientists at the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) have successfully tested a 1.1-ton superconducting magnetic levitation vehicle, accelerating it to a record-breaking 700 km/h in just two seconds on a 400-metre test track.

China has set a new world record by accelerating a ton-class superconducting maglev test vehicle to 700 km/h in just two seconds. The vehicle successfully made a safe stop from its maxmum speed within the limited track distance.

The breakthrough was achieved by a research team from the National University of Defense Technology on a 400-meter maglev test line. After 10 years of research, the team solved key challenges in speed, stability, power delivery and superconducting magnet control.

Earlier in June 2025, a 1.1-tonne test sled at Donghu Laboratory reached 650 km/h (404 mph) in just seven seconds over a distance of 600 meters.

早在 2025 年 6 月，东湖实验室的 1.1 吨级试验滑橇，就曾在 600 米距离内，仅用 7 秒提速至 650 公里 / 小时（折合 404 英里 / 小时）。

@AndyCarrington-cf3ib Well CERN is proven to send a particle at almost the speed of light, we only need a fraction of that speed. The keyword is less fuel, propel the load to midway and boosters do the rest of the work

this is meant for aircraft carriers to launch planes quickly into the air and i assume at this gforce rate they would probably do this with unmanned drones as china is quickly improving on ai powered drones

It's probably not a coincidence the system's 10g acceleration is approxmately the sustained human tolerance level. Such a system would need around 16 km of track to put people in lunar orbit from the surface. I bet that's what they're shooting for.
