China's $699 Robot Legs Are Making America's $95,000 Exoskeleton Look Ridiculous
China’s new robot legs cost just $699, while America’s best-known medical exoskeleton carries a Medicare price of almost $95,000. we look at how Chinese consumer exoskeletons like the Dnsys Z1 knee exoskeleton and the Hypershell X Ultra went from science fiction to Amazon bestsellers. These wearable robots weigh as little as 1.5 pounds per knee, strap on in about 15 seconds, and use AI and sensors to help you walk, climb stairs, and hike with less effort. We compare them with the ReWalk exoskeleton and Ekso Bionics, the American medical machines built for spinal cord injury, and explain why the two worlds solve very different problems.
In China, seniors are already renting robot legs at the Great Wall, Mount Tai, Huashan, and i’an’s ancient city wall, often for less than the price of lunch. During the October 2026 National Day holiday, Mount Tai recorded more than 4,000 exoskeleton-assisted climbs, and about 60% of users were over 50. You’ll see why China got there first: a supply chain built for EVs, drones, and e-bikes; a fast-aging population; and tourist rental programs that let millions try wearable robotics for the first time.

The middleman gets most of the $95,000. For filing the paperwork.

American companies try to strip as much money out of you as they possibly can. I just had someone inspect my crawl space underneath my house to check for mold and moisture and to see if they could get all of it out. The upfront estimate for the entire work? Over 9K. And if I wanted the optional beam support added in (to make the floor more even and feel more rigid), that would’ve been an additional 3K. So I looked more deeply into it and figured that I could actually do most of this work by myself for significantly less. In short, the US is basically a country full of swindlers.

Perhaps, but this video is comparing apples and oranges. The $100k machines help paralysed people stand and walk. Paralysed people. People whose legs don’t work. It helps them stand and walk again.
The $1k versions assist people who can already walk. THAT is why they are cheaper.
The Chinese also make machines that help paralysed people walk, and those ALSO cost $100k.

I wouldn't call these "swindlers" since it's a laissez-faire offer. But you're right that comparatively USAmericans are generally greedy.

The Chinese is simpler but practical. Go try it first before commenting. Not sure if you can get the Chinese ones in the US. The product just got introduced in Malaysia recently. The highest version cost around USD2400

Bravo... make devices that help people
vision9275
Yes, that’s correct. But as far as the West as a whole—and the US in particular—is concerned, manufacturing devices only benefits the wealthy and the shareholders.

Rescuing and hel people that are most in need is the job for a country like China not the job for a country like the US as an American politician once implied

The day America leading the world in technology and innovation has long been over. Given the population size, energy, and work ethic of China, there is no chance for America to get back ahead given China's formidable supply chain and infrastructure that support their ambition. At this juncture, American doesn't have to lead but we must at least keep up to avoid falling further behind, and drop to the abyss of no return. In order to do so, we must rebuild our manufacturing base to support any innovations and technology discoveries, then rebuild and advance the nation's network of infrastructure and supply chain. Of course our political system needs a major overhaul in order improve the necessary support system of education, healthcare, childcare, law and order etc etc, to improve the life of average Americans.

Politics and nationalism aside if this could prevent even a fraction of the millions of older adults who are treated for falls in the ER annually, or the over 44,000 older adults who die from falls, I think it would be worth it.

Just proves that American consumers are being ripped off. Hopefully this is allowed in the U. S for people that need it.

Everything.....and I mean everything.....in USA is overpriced and deliberately so. Multiple times more expensive than anywhere else on earth and not better in quality, either. Americans are being taken for rides for decades yet are being brainwashed into being thankful for being taken for rides.
pennyc11
Since my illness is a brain dysfunction not promising for me. Repetitive movement causes bursitis.
Yet, if it reduces pain? Some hope? I miss riding a bike. Being able walk a mile. Reduced pain might lower the pain level that causes bursitis. That would be a miracle I could use.
I wish it would though.
$700 is reasonable. Tired of gouging people who own the least amount of money. This will change so many lives.

New gadgets which cripple you directly as you increasing rely less on your own muscles.

America develops any kind of product with the purpose of enriching its creators
, other countries create and invent to make society and those in need better more productive members of society
. And that is what’s wrong with America .
handaxa1251
they are 2 different products, no? the Chinese one is simpler, it helps people step ahead, people who use them are able to walk. the American one is for hel people who cannot walk using their legs anymore or paralyzed, see the different? Paralyzed people cannot use Chinese exoskeleton because it is completely a different product, why confuse people?
TonyBlack-wy5gi
This is what Trump is wearing!
mutanthybrid3466
First off, these are not medical exoskeletons. They are cheap downgrades for assistance in hiking, not for medical grade movement aid. They are horrible when trying to use the bathroom, are clunky, limited in battery life, and do not provide complete mobility for a paraplegic. They cannot make someone move if they can't move already. The medical version is for that. All they are doing is making a cheap object for a little assistance, not a medical device. That is why it can be cheap. I agree that medical tech and medication is expensive in the US, but this thing does not replace the rewalk for what it is capable of, but can help with rehabilitation and help with those that can walk with walking easier. Saying they are better does not indicate a realistic picture of what each device does since they are for completely different things.
cyborgge1
And that's the difference bet America and China, in the US it's a rip off, over charge by a mile. In China, how can we do it cheap so that more people can use it.

"China's $699 Robot Legs Are Making America's $95,000 Exoskeleton Look Ridiculous"
The "ridiculously" huge differences in pricing between Chinese and european/american societies only serves to remind us that while Chinese seek to be masters of wealth-accumulation, european people will forever remain slaves to money/wealth -- never see come see.
For while wealth ARE SUPPOSED TO BE in service of the people, european people hoard wealth into the hands of a relative few; because after all, 'wealth is so precious'; only the privilege few are supposed to hoard and worship wealth. lol
