China's Tianwen-3 Mars Mission Progressing Smoothly: Chief Scientist

The Tianwen-3, China's first Mars sample-return mission, is progressing smoothly, entering the prototype development phase with multiple technical breakthroughs and with scientific preparations underway simultaneously, said the mission's chief scientist on Sept 3.

天问三号任务的首席科学家侯增谦 9 月 3 日表示，中国首次火星采样返回任务 —— 天问三号进展顺利，现已进入样机研制阶段，取得多项技术突破，相关科学筹备工作也同步开展。

依托先进的观测技术，人类已经开展了超过300次深空探测任务，覆盖了月球、太阳、太阳系行星及小天体。其中，太阳系中与地球最相似的类地行星之一——火星，是人类深空探测的关键目标之一。大量证据表明，早期火星曾存在液态水、较稠密的大气和全球性磁场，具备形成宜居环境的重要条件。天问三号任务就将“探寻火星生命痕迹”作为首要科学目标，侯增谦表示，“这是经过深思熟虑作出的科学选择”。

“我们希望通过火星返回样品的精细分析，寻找可靠的生命信号，如果获得确凿证据，将对回答‘地球之外是否存在过生命’这一重大科学问题产生深远影响。任务还计划研究火星宜居性、地质与内部结构及大气演化。”侯增谦说。

侯增谦介绍，天问三号任务的核心技术挑战有三：到哪里采、怎么采，以及严格实施行星保护和污染控制。综合考虑地质年代、水活动历史、宜居性和生命信号保存潜力等因素，任务初步遴选了8个候选着陆区，尽可能提高获取高科学价值样品的概率。采样环节计划开展最深约两米的钻取采样，获取地下样品，尽可能降低表面辐射、氧化和风化作用对潜在生命信号的破坏，更好保存火星原始信息。

“无论是否发现生命痕迹，返回的火星样品都具有不可替代的科学价值。”侯增谦表示，地球实验室的先进技术，可以从微观、分子和同位素尺度研究火星物质，深化对火星地质、环境和宜居性演化以及生命起源条件的认识。天问三号任务体现了中国深空探测进一步向科学目标与工程能力深度融合发展，以重大科学问题牵引任务设计和工程实施，并将推动天体生物学、行星地质学、地球化学和生命科学等多学科交叉发展。

How can a country with so many things going for it...Mars missions, Lunar missions, naval expansion, 6th gen fighter jets, HSR, beauatiful and gleaming cities, renewable energy, electric vehicles......still lumped in a group of failed and poor states like Vietnam and African countries when it comes to anti‑animal cruelty law? China, amazingly, has absolutely NO law against animal cruelty whatsoever. This is why 90% of all dog and cat torture videos circulating on the Dark Web comes from China! This is also why horrific instances of animal cruelty occur everyday in China, like what happened to a little dog name Wang Wang in Jieyang, Guangdong province. Please, China, live up to your reputation as a great nation and enact a law against animal cruelty !
