All my relatives my maternal cousins are in US . My mother's elder sister has settled in US since 1980. When they come to India they break the traffic rules so badly. They instructed the autodriver to take the auto in a one way street from the opposite direction. When I and the auto driver resisted they said they talked very lightly about India and instructed the driver to go in the wrong direction

Do you know every NRI in every country? How is that applicable to most? So if you know all this does PM who has actual data from all consulates and embassies doesn’t know this or our FMwho encourages NRIs to invest. Or it’s just you guies just thinking you know everything. India doesn’t have dual citizenship and Indians have been asking Indian govts from decades to have some solution for it. India is number 1 in the world for foreign remittances proving their interest in India but Indian media just shitting on anyone and everyone they think might be a problem with no evidence. It’s so easy to throw such serious allegations without any proof.

Do you know how many of us Indians want the country to develop better than what it is? We promote India to others and maintain some respect with how be behave and treat. The trash also goes to other countries and ruins the reputation. Some you are such a patriotic Indian, go fix the pathetic corruption. Or rather, don't get involved in corruption and bribery. You people are the first to do that.

This is a very valid question :-) I feel generally in the first 10-15 years the ones who go out tend to look down but then mature on. However a lot, not all finally settle down to a life where they complain about both countries after a peg or two :-)
Complaining and blaming seems to be an affliction of certain middle class tertiary educated with steady salary! The one who have moved really high or get busy with their work at average levels without any major degree tend to be less complaining. This is my experience across all citizens. But this category firms majority of NRIs of yesterday years! The ones from smaller towns in India enjoy both countries and tend to feel fortunate!

抱怨、指责似乎成了一部分受过高等教育、拥有稳定收入的中产人群的通病。事业取得巨大成就的人，或是学历普通、埋头踏实工作的普通人，很少满腹牢骚。这是我观察各类人群得出的感受。早年出国的海外印度人里，中产群体占大多数。而来自印度小城的侨民，更懂得享受两地生活，常常心怀感恩。

Not too sure if its just me, but looks like Smita is thinking that way rather than the NRIs. Also how fair is it to put all the NRIs in the same bracket , even all NRIs from the US ?

the core issue why people are desperate to move is reservations and lack of support to merit, by way of scholarships or patent protection if it comes up. no country has reservations or its equivalent to the extent of 70%. Desite 75 years of its exstence no improvements were made to it to ensure it targets the people who require it. the second big one is corruption. the rest of the stuff job security, freedom , cleanliness, great roads, pollution, politics etc are all relative to the environment and people behaviour.

This is absolutely crazy. She is saying that NRI’s don’t want India to progress so they can justify being overseas. Maybe she is just bitter that she could not move. I have lived in the US for 30 years and I love going to India every year and seeing it grow. I wish it was cleaner and more convenient. I have no idea what she is trying to ask, say or prove. What an idiot.

To keep your country clean or behaving in a certain manner has nothing to do with government. It it the public responsibility to keep their surrounding clean and behave.

我选择留在故土，热爱本国历史，拒绝了这份海外工作。当初顶替我前去巴林的人，如今定居意大利，拿到欧盟身份。

而我留在国内，薪资微薄，骑着摩托车行驶在坑洼的公路上，还要担心警察和当地地痞。

I am not an NRI but I am racially Indian. We left India centuries ago and are for all intents and purposes, Western. That said, I am deeply tied to my Indian roots. I have noticed though that first generation Asian settlers in the West, from all corners of Asia, suffer amnesia when they arrive here. Thats just so weird. Each time I look in the mirror, India stares back at me.

I am sorry Smitha m'aam not all NRIs want India to fail. A lot of Indians here in Australia are proud of India's rise and we even go as far as bragging about India's achievements. We do have a very balanced view of both our adopted country Australia and our country of origin India. There's pros and cons to living in both countries. It's each individual's preference as to where they choose to live. Indian Americans shouldn't be used as the stereotype and reference template to generalise all NRIs. I really think both Arnab ji and you are being disingenuous and harsh in this segment of your podcast. Why would most of us want to see India fail???
