Once heavily reliant on landfills, China has transformed the way it deals with urban waste. Today, waste-to-energy plants are turning garbage into electricity, hel reduce pollution while providing power for thousands of households.

At a modern incineration facility in Beiing, garbage is first stored and fermented before being fed into high-temperature furnaces. The heat generated produces steam that drives turbines to generate electricity for the national grid. Advanced purification systems ensure emissions remain strictly controlled, addressing concerns about pollutants such as dioxns.

By converting waste into energy, China is shifting from simply disposing of trash to treating it as a valuable resource. The model supports the country's push toward greener development and "zero-waste cities," while Chinese technologies are also being introduced overseas in develo regions facing growing waste challenges.

曾几何时，中国高度依赖垃圾填埋处理方式，如今已彻底转变城市垃圾治理模式。如今，垃圾焚烧发电厂将垃圾转化为电能，在减少污染的同时，为数以千计的家庭提供电力。

在北京一座现代化垃圾焚烧厂内，垃圾先经储存发酵，随后送入高温焚烧炉。焚烧产生的热量形成蒸汽，驱动涡轮机发电并入国家电网。厂内配备先进净化系统，严格管控废气排放，有效解决二噁英等污染物排放问题。

通过垃圾资源化利用，中国正从单纯的垃圾填埋处置，转向将垃圾视为宝贵资源加以利用。这一模式助力国家推动绿色发展与“无废城市”建设，同时，中国相关技术也正输出至海外，助力垃圾处理压力日益加剧的发展中地区。

In my district, a factory was about to start to manage plastic waste and turn it into electricity but people refused saying that , the factory is harmful for us . I mean seriously nothing is more harmful than waste and plastics they were really foolish.

In China, all the garbage can now be automatically sorted using AI and most of the solids remainings will be converted into a specific type of hard bricks that have high loading capacity. we uses these hard bricks for public road pavements and they are so well done. Please pass the words around and please come to visit our waste manament facilities and learn the skills to project our planet ! I think it can be useful in a country with big population like Indonesia!

That's true, the transportation cost is just high. If other countries want to dispose of their waste, they can send it over. China can burn as much as they have, and there's no need to worry about air pollution either - we have self-cleaning systems

The issue is wether the entire process has a positive NPV. If it is a negative NPV, then how costly it is? Most less developed countries cannot afford to fund such projects, let alone the ability to build and operate such plants. Perhaps it can be part of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to assist these counties and the world to reduce and eventually reach zero waste.

关键在于整个项目是否有正净现值。如果是负的，成本会有多高？大多数欠发达国家根本没钱建这类项目，更别说运营了。或许这可以纳入中国“一带一路”倡议，帮助这些国家乃至全世界减少垃圾，最终实现零废弃。

Norway has already run out of waste. So, it’s importing it from other countries. Except that other countries has to pay to “sell” waste to Norway.

Unfortunately, hardcore environmentalists are preventing the same method in reducing or eliminating waste and landfills. Every year the landfills in my city are getting higher and wider and stinkier.
