It’s time for an almighty SUV drag race!
We’re starting off with the Ferrari Purosangue against a tuned Range Rover Sport SV, with the winner set to go up against the behemoth that is the Yangwang U8!
But how will they stack up when they hit the track? Let’s take a closer look at the stats…
Starting with the Ferrari, it’s powered by a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 that puts down 725hp and 716Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed auto, and it weighs in at 2,150kg. As new, it costs from £313,000!
Then we come to the Range Rover. It’s packing a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, and this usually created 635hp and 750Nm. However, this car’s been tuned, so it now puts down 670hp! Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed auto, but it’s a fair bit heavier than the Ferrari, at 2,485kg. It’s a whole lot cheaper, though, costing £150,000.
Then we come to the Yangwang U8. It’s powered by a 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine, but it also has four electric motors! As a result, it creates 1,196hp and 1,280Nm. However, there’s one issue… It’s super heavy, weighing in at 3,460kg!

最后登场的是仰望U8:搭载2.0升涡轮增压四缸汽油发动机,同时配备四台电机,综合动力可达1196马力、1280牛·米扭矩。但有一个问题——车身重量堪称“重量级”,重达3460公斤!

1. 参赛车辆核心参数

3. 终极对决:法拉利胜仰望,仰望表现超预期
赛事裁判安排沃森驾驶仰望U8、山姆驾驶路虎,山姆却违规坐上法拉利,裁判最终默许该安排,让法拉利与仰望展开对决。静止起步赛中,仰望起步打滑明显,法拉利轻松取胜,仰望四分之一英里成绩12.4秒,为三款车中最慢;10英里/小时滚动起步半英里赛,仰望依旧不敌法拉利,被逐步拉开差距。但在刹车测试中,重达3460kg的仰望表现惊艳,与法拉利的差距极小,远超众人预期。

Gasoline vehicles just don't have it from a dig unless you want to risk damaging the tranny and differential from successive aggressive launches (actually you can't avoid a certain amount of wear-n-tear each time). Even then an ICE lacks the instant torque of an EV's linear torque curve. Even then they lack the instant torque of an EV's linear torque curve. An EV can launch like this 25 times or more every day for years and never need to open the hood. LOL, you'd be lucky to get through one weekend of drag racing a sub-10 second ICE without needing to get under the hood or under the vehicle to adjust, repair or replace something expensive (especially if it's a Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren). As they say, a Fossil fool and his money.... But hey, the ICE looks and sounds cooler, at least for a few seconds. After that they're too far behind to see or hear them.

Weight can be an advantage in braking and accelerating of the line as it increases mechanical grip. Not good for repetitive braking.

Funnily enough the Ferrari had a slightly worse power to weight ratio than the Yangwang.
But the Purosangue isn't designed like an industrial fridge, so aerodynamics probably helps too.

It looks small in comparison but it’s definitely raised hatchback. It’s almost 5 metre long, which is longer than my Mercedes EQB, which is comfortable 7 seater.

Electric regen is a massive braking force. I wonder how much of the actual brakes are used to generate braking force and what it is like in subsequent tests (ie do the brakes fade badly and does braking distance increase significantly)
