For years, rumors circulated about the new Chinese tank. It turns out that one of the earliest leaked photos matches the final design. Now, with parade rehearsals underway, the tarps have come off, and the new tank is quite an interesting machine. First off, it's not exactly small compared to the Type 99, China's heavy tank—it is about 10% shorter. Another comparison with scaled images shows a similarly wide hull, though that includes the thick side armor modules of the new tank. Height-wise, it's roughly equal to the Type 99A at the turret roof level. These figures are approxmate (within a few decimeters), but clearly, this is not a small tank. Its track width and length are about 10% narrower and shorter than those on the Type 99.

Tanks tend to aim for similar ground pressure, so track contact area offers clues to weight. If designed for low ground pressure like the original Soviet T-72, it might weigh around 40 metric tons. But as tanks have generally grown heavier over time without much track compensation, a weight of 45–50 metric tons is a more likely estimate. That would make it heavier than a T-72 and China's own Type 96, similar to the T-90, and a bit lighter than the late-model Leopard 2.

They why is the export forms of all these weapons not chosen by other nations to arm themselves, why choose Russian, US, Swedish, or Dutch. All of the nations listed sell more weapons than china, some singularly double china, Sweden sells 1 billion worth each year alone. China total sales last year are only ~400$ million of mostly small arms and artillery shells to Russia, there is currently not one nation except China that uses Chinese armor, and the only nation with jet sales just canceled (Pakistan) for Russian exports.

I think this is only an intermediate stop gap at best. The future is fully autonomous. Why put 3 humans in harms way in an expensive piece of equipment if the same could be done without it? As Ukraine has clearly pointed out, it doesn't matter how advanced the tank is (be it old cheap soviet one, or more modern wester ones), they are just easy targets for focus drone attack, where few thousand or at most tens of thousands of dollars will all but guarantee a kill of a multimillion dollar tank. The future rests with cheap autonomous, moderately armored (maybe against small arms only), platforms that can a smaller number of large caliber rounds

Considering terrain in Asia, most engagements will probably be BVR with drones hitting tanks, or short range where 105mm is more than sufficient. So may as well go for more mobility. Makes sense considering expeditionary needs and mobility restrictions in East Asia. Only issue is power generation for future electronic systems IMO.

Same thing happened with russia and usa with f-15 made to combat mig-25. Mig-25 turned out to be crap and f-15 turned out to be the best plane in it's time. Usa is over.
