China will deliver the world's first sail-assisted Aframax tanker to a company from the UK, marking a key breakthrough for the country's shipbuilding industry in providing green and low-carbon solutions to modern oil tankers.

The tanker, built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, was named "Brands Hatch" Wednesday, a name inspired by a technically challenging racing circuit in Britain.

该油轮由中国船舶集团旗下上海外高桥造船有限公司建造，被命名为“布兰兹哈奇”——名称源自英国一条技术挑战性极强的赛车赛道。

World’s first Aframax tanker with a wind-propulsion system has been officially named the Brands Hatch on June 11 at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. Built for UK-based Union Maritime, the tanker typically carries 80,000–120,000 tons of crude or refined oil.

The ship is also fitted with three 40-meter-plus "wind wings" that adjust in real time using smart weather-tracking tech. The sails rise, rotate and fold automatically to catch the wind, cutting fuel use and emissions. Sailing before the wind, the system can save up to 14.5 tons of fuel and reduce CO₂ by 45 tons per day.

Since 2022, the Shanghai-based SWS has delivered 15 LNG dual-fuel ships and has 21 more on order.

6月11日，全球首艘配备风帆推进系统的阿芙拉型油轮在上海外高桥造船厂正式命名为“布兰兹哈奇”。该油轮为英国联合海事公司建造，通常可运载8万至12万吨原油或精炼油。

这艘油轮还安装了三个超40米的“风力翼”，通过智能气象追踪技术实现实时调节。风帆可自动升降、旋转和折叠以利用风力，从而降低燃料消耗和排放。在顺风航行时，该系统每天可节省多达14.5吨燃料，减少45吨二氧化碳排放。

自2022年以来，这家总部位于上海的外高桥造船公司已交付15艘液化天然气双燃料船，另有21艘订单在执行中。
