As US President Donald Trump publicly lashes out at Vladimir Putin for dragging out the Ukraine war, Moscow is quietly retooling its Asia strategy putting India front and centre in hopes of countering growing Western influence. While Trump’s frustration with Putin mounts, the Kremlin has ramped up arms deals and diplomatic outreach to New Delhi, aiming to revive the once-promising Russia-India-China (RIC) troika as a foil to the Quad.

Trump’s irritation with Putin has grown as the Kremlin delays a ceasefire. While Kyiv reportedly accepted Trump's earlier 30-day truce proposal, Russia refused, insisting on terms that would force Ukraine to surrender territory not even under Russian control. Trump has since offered to host peace talks, but Moscow’s demands, including US recognition of Crimea, have drawn accusations from experts like former ambassador Michael McFaul, who called them “poison pills” meant to derail diplomacy.

当美国总统唐纳德·特朗普公开抨击弗拉基米尔·普京拖延乌克兰战争时，莫斯科正悄然调整自己的亚洲战略，将印度置于核心位置，以期对抗西方日益增长的影响力。在特朗普对普京的不满与日俱增之际，克里姆林宫加大了对新德里的军售和外交攻势，试图重振一度前景看好的俄印中（RIC）三方合作机制，以制衡“四方安全对话”（Quad）。

This has forced Putin to rekindle old alliances as a means to ‘fight, fight, fight’ against the US influence. From arms deals to trilateral summits, Russia is intensifying efforts to woo New Delhi, ho to revive the Russia-India-China (RIC) dialogue as a counterweight to Western influence.

The situation became more tricky for New Delhi when US secretary of commerce Howard Lutnick delivered a forthright assessment of recent tensions in the India-US relationship, pointing to certain Indian policies that “rubbed the US the wrong way.” These include New Delhi’s continued purchase of military equipment from Russia and its participation in the BRICS grou, which Lutnick characterised as an attempt to “not support the dollar and dollar hegemony.”

为此，普京重新激活旧联盟，作为“对抗”美国影响力的手段。从军售到三方峰会，俄罗斯正加大力度拉拢新德里，希望恢复俄印中对话，作为抗衡西方影响力的砝码。

当美国商务部长霍华德·卢特尼克对近期美印关系紧张做出直率评估后，新德里的处境变得更为棘手。卢特尼克指出，印度的某些政策“惹恼了美国”，包括新德里继续从俄罗斯购买军事装备，以及参与金砖国家集团——他称此举是试图“不支持美元和美元霸权”。

Putin is trying hard to keep the BRICS afloat. Trump is trying hard to dismantle BRICS and simultaneously use the influence of India within the QUAD. It's not about territorial aggression or integrity rather it's all about the world economy. Till date nobody has shown the guts to challenge the MIGHTY DOLLAR. But BRICS took a resolution recently at Moscow in the presence of Modi and chinese leader for floating an alternative currency that can put pressure on the dollar. Looking at Putin's attitude it seems it won't be a cake walk for Trump to command and control which he might have dreamt of. Where does India stand? I think instead of being the policy maker, we should watch from the stands. Let Russia-China lock horns with Trump. Mind you, his plate is already full! Iran is another big headache for him. So is Musk!

US's involvement in the regime change in Bangladesh was an eye opener for many Indians. India's only permanent and long term solution is military independence, but the corruption/inefficiency and the myriads of problems, this country will always be a laggard, just like that typical student who doesn't fail, never gets an A grade but barely manages to pass with a D grade.
