White House says it has a deal with China while Chinese call it 'consensus'

In a media briefing after a second day of talks with U.S. negotiators on Sunday, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng said trade talks with the U.S. “achieved substantial progress and reached important consensus.”

Earlier Sunday, the White House said that it reached a deal without providing any details.

While U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer called it a “deal,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who was in Switzerland for the talks with Greer, said only that "substantial progress" had been made.

China said that it will release a joint statement with the U.S. on Monday regarding the agreement reached on Sunday.

副总理何立峰在周日与美国谈判代表进行了第二天的会谈后举行的新闻发布会上表示，与美国的贸易谈判“取得了实质性进展，并达成了重要共识”。

this is not a trade "deal" until all the Is are dotted and Ts crossed. a framework is not a deal...and China will play trump...because he is king of the art of no deal...without concessions....and China and other countries who previously traded with the US are already finding other trade partners...and trump's claim that the other countries need the U.S. market but we don't need theirs...I wonder how many American manufacturers agree with that statement...certainly the companies who rely on foreign trade partners to expand their markets...no..the increase in Americans buying only American made products (in 5 to 10 years from now)...will not replace their overseas loss of markets...or do you really think American corporations only "Sell American"?
