Shanghai unveils world's first 3KM-long superconducting tape, critical for nuclear fusion project

Shanghai on Sunday unveiled the world’s first 3-kilometer-long high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tape.

The breakthrough builds on a 15-year effort by Shanghai researchers to bring superconducting technology from university laboratories to industrial-scale production.

The newly announced 3-kilometer tape will be produced at Shanghai Superconductor's new headquarters in Zhangjiang Science City in Pudong.

The new facility is designed to produce 15,000 kilometers of HTS tape annually, further strengthening Shanghai’s position in the global second-generation HTS market.
