A nightmare unfolded in China’s Anhui Province as viral drone footage showed an ocean of cars trapped in a 24-hour traffic jam at the Wuzhuang toll station — the country’s largest with 36 lanes. The chaos erupted as 888 million people traveled home after the extended eight-day Golden Week holiday. Highways turned into parking lots, with drivers stranded for up to six hours. The jam highlights China’s growing car culture, straining infrastructure and exposing the dark side of its booming domestic tourism economy.

this is world's lagest toll station, there is a hub city Naning connecting central and eastern China. Since Naning does not want to set up toll booths within the city, nearly half of the southbound traffic is charged at this toll booth, causing tidal congestion. even it was FREE during Oct 18, still mega jam happened, record was 148K vehicles on Oct 7th

Additional lane does solve traffic issues if there is no bottleneck. This road might have saved a lot of time for regular travellers, but you cannot make infra for once a year event.
Making additional lane wont make sense if you can't disperse traffic at end point. eg. Gurgaon Expressway, which starts and ends at congestion points, additional lane would not solve any traffic, instead making a road from and to different point of ext would be more beneficial. Thats why Dwarka expressway is stupid, as its 8 additional lanes to the same choke points

如果没有瓶颈路段,增加车道是能解决交通问题的。这条道路平时可能帮通勤者省了很多时间,但总不能为了一年一次的(黄金周)建基础设施吧。

要是终点没办法疏散车流,增加车道就没意义。比如印度的古尔冈高速公路,起点和终点都是拥堵点,加车道根本没用;相反,修一条能连接不同出口的道路会更有用。所以德瓦卡高速公路就是个例子,它加的8条车道,最终还是汇入同一个拥堵点。

​ @userci5le3uk5l Its not a freedom issue. More of an enabling issue. If you lag on public mass transport infra and just build more roads then people will have no choice but to buy cars. When in reality they may be more happy with walking, cycling, bus, metro or railways. Infra does not mean only roads. Footpath, bicycle lane, bus lane, dedicated pedestrian/cycling paths and trails are all part of it. Even the drainage, power lines, cellular/internet lines should all be part of initial design.

这不是自由的问题,更多是“基础设施是否完善”的问题。如果公共交通设施落后,只靠修更多马路,人们就只能被迫买车——但实际上,他们可能更愿意选择步行、骑车、坐公交、地铁或火车。基础设施不只是马路,人行道、自行车道、公交专用道、专门的步行/骑行步道,这些都是基础设施的一部分。甚至排水系统、电力线路、移动/网络线路,都应该在最初的设计里考虑到。

@userci5le3uk5l what about the freedom of someone who is urgent, need to reach somewhere, what about the freedom of someone who might miss their flight? Don’t they have right to take the flight? They want without having to waste money? What about the freedom of someone who wants urgent healthcare?

They have built an infrastructure to predict and accommodate the huge movement. Credit be given where due. Can’t find faults if they have made efforts and want to improve from learning actively. India should learn and develop.

Populist country like us should build more Public Transport Infrastructure like Trains, Buses and Metros. After seeing this video, my opinion is that country like us can't sustain Traffic Jam like this with no Driving Sense. Build Heavy Public Transport Infrastructure like Japan.

After passing the toll the road is too narrow they must extent the road by replacing all those trees on right side. This is the what causing major issue with traffic jam.

过了收费站之后,道路就太窄了。他们应该把右边所有的树都移走,拓宽道路。这才是造成拥堵的主要原因。
