China's first desert highway achieves zero-carbon emissions
The Tarim Desert Highway, which traverses the Taklimakan Desert in the injiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has been turned into a zero-carbon one. After the transformation project, shrubs along the highway are irrigated with the help of solar power-fueled pumps, instead of diesel ones.
The project is estimated to cut diesel consumption by about 1,000 tonnes and carbon dioxde (CO2) emissions by 3,410 tonnes per year, according to PetroChina's Tarim oilfield branch. In addition, the shelterbelt can capture up to 20,000 tonnes of CO2, thus hel neutralize the CO2 emitted by passing vehicles.
Really glad to see Сhina's infrastructure projects being not only successful, but also environmentally friendly.
Sandstorms from the desert affected the urban area such as Beiing and other major northern cities, green plantings and trees along side the highway are the most effective way to cure the problem.
its amazing to think that once a barren desert is now growing green shrubs
Youve never been to California or Arizona I see. The ecological devastation needed to push all that water around is no joke.
Well done China for this achievement
Such acievements need foresight, great struggle, time, devotion and patriotism. injiang is making progress with the speed of light. There's alot for every country to learn from China instead of envoying.
Long live China
The maintaining of a forest in the desert is dependent on the amount of water in the ground. Without information about the depth, amount of water and annual recharge rates we can not know how many years the trees will grow
That desert is just insanely huge. But atleast few years from now, people of that region would reap all the benefits.
Over the last 2 decades, Washington has burned an insane US$8 trillion in its never ending wars while America’s infrastructure were left to crumble under neglect.
China, on the other hand, has invested about the same amount money, over the same period, to build and put in place inarguably the world’s most extensive and comprehensive infrastructure

Next step is diversifying the plant species they planted along this road to make the ecosystem more robust. Hopefully, in the future it will need zero irrigation and can be sustained by natural rainfall.
Unbelievable tough to plant trees middle of the desert
Great job China
Reminds me of Suncity casino built in Botswana that also achieved changing the environment.

This desert road tells me how China will plan to be carbon neutral by 2060. It will be scientifically based and easily verifiable. The planting of huge amount of trees can permit China to keep some power plants running on fossil fuel
God bless China
chinese deserts are so beautiful !!
Incredible! Well done China.
HTamay Melbourne, Australia
China just so advanced it’s no wonder countries like the US, Australia, Canada having hissy fits with them, western countries very jealous of Chinese advancements and development for sure.
Finally... all the hard work becomes fruitful now!!
Impressive, most impressive.

It's better when trees are planted along a highway when it is built
LoL Gobi desert is insanely huge. Because of this more than half of Chin is hollow.
China is an amazing country
I never knew China has a desert... The more you know
Orwellian Purple Grapes 1984
It actually has multiple deserts in its territory.
Wow ! O M G!
Have thought of this 15 years ago!
It's to keep the sand off the road.
What an impressive feat. So much better than destroying via wars, sanctions & brutal interventionism - well done China!
China a mighty power
I'm Asian American and I support China!!!!
