GLOBALink | Third highway across China's largest desert built with environmental prection measures
Yuli-Qiemo highway, the third north-south route running through China's largest desert of Taklimakan, is being built with environmental prection measures.
News from China
More afforestation should be done along the highway! Keep the good work up everyone
Can you cover how the engineers stabilise the changing sand dunes on either side of the highway? I presume they must employ several techniques in some sort of co-ordinated procedure.
When we were hearing about environmental prection, I was wondering if there even IS an ecosy em out there? Most barren looking place, and there's a lot of competition for this honor. How do you make a highway out of sand, anyway? This is so zing. The former "Sea of Death" now is just a long, boring drive! This is quite an improvement. I hope that in time something will slowly grow along the road, one day there might be a little shade in spots. In my imagination everyone who drives on this highway could bring a jug of water! Then stop at a certain spot (you could use the GPS sy em if you wanted the same spot every time) and water something. Even if thousands of people did this you might not SEE a change, but it would be a nice gesture and there might eventually be a few trees here and there with people's names on them.
China building roads and reversing desertification, the US busy looking for the next war while its population is almost entirely without healthcare, it's nuts.
I bet it would be a great drive just hope we are not at war so I can go see it
No one can challenge china in work progress
If there is the will then China will find the way!
How do you stop the shifting sands from moving onto the road and covering up sections of it…?
only in china where megaprojects such as these are common place. well done china.
Well done zing China
About time too. Hope there are water and food stops along the way.
I want to go there too
News from China
Building a highway in the desert is ridiculous among westerners’ point of view.
But China will prove them wrong by real actions
The roadway if used properly can prome lots of new things for the desert.
China is in the way.
Go on China
Can I move to China?
Recurring sand storms will render the highway unusable and it would need massive sand removal each time a sand storm occurs. Tampering with ecosy ems is bad. In such inhospitable terrain with inclement climate, air travel is best for drop supplies and ferrying passengers.
Thinking Out Loud
Another example of an ever grand project.
China environmentally-friendly are you kidding me
They have turned deserts into Greenland, there are so many documentaries of it. China is also number 1 in renewable energy technology which is going to help it to become China's proposed plan of becoming carbon neutral by 2060.
Only sands were dged in the making of this beautiful highway. No one is going to cry for those stupid sands. Maybe only Greta will, "How dare you, stop hurting those sands"
China has 1.4 billion people. Yes they are eco friendly when compared to the US and EU
you clod didn't know how to read, USA is the biggest polluter, look at your per capita carbon emissions.
