China's homegrown C919 aircraft flew over Hong Kong and Victoria Harbour on Saturday (December 16) in its inaugural flight abroad, drawing plane aviation enthusiasts, curious onlookers and the media.

The plane developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), took off from Hong Kong International Airport at 10:30 a.m. (0230GMT). The jet entered from the west and made two passes over Victoria Harbour at altitudes of 1,500 feet and 1,000 feet respectively, according to the Civil Aviation Department.

The C919 stands as China's first narrow-body passenger jet developed domestically, aiming to rival the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 single-aisle aircraft families. With a capacity ranging from 158 to 192 passengers, it's tailored for medium-haul flights, boasting a range of 5,555 kilometres (3,452 miles), the Civil Aviation Department said.
