The 56th satellite for China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) was launched from the ichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Wednesday. The Geosynchronous Earth Orbit satellite is the first backup satellite of the BDS-3, and will be connected to the system after completing in-orbit tests.

周三,中国北斗导航卫星系统的第56颗卫星在四川省西昌卫星发射中心发射。地球同步轨道卫星是BDS-3的第一颗备份卫星,将在完成在轨测试后连接到该系统。

The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System became operational in China in December 2011 with a partial constellation of 10 satellites in orbit.
The 35th and the final satellite of BDS-3 was launched into orbit on 23 June 2020.
The latest BeiDou satellite was successfully launched marking the launch of the 56th satellite in the Beidou family.
