How countries weaponise food to swing wars
Since time immemorial, food has been used as a weapon of war. Enemies have tried to starve each other.
The Romans did it, so did the Germans, and the Americans.
Colonial Britain weaponised food in India.
Is Russia using the same template?

Food security. Energy security. Water security. In my opinion, it is the duty of each government to ensure these for its people, either through self-sufficiency, storage or through diversified trade with friendly nations.
If a country is weak and lacking in these, it puts its people at the mercy of external politics.
If a country is powerful and lacking in these, it may one day resort to atrocities to secure the means.
This is the time for introspection by all on the relevance of UNO, especially Security Council, which is dictating the world by its veto.
It’s about conserving water in one of the worst droughts in history
American media talks about one thing all day everyday... politics.
Food must grow where people are...India makes a great example and Indians and Indian army are mercy enough to feed even an enemy on battlefield or wherever
Food self sufficiency is the only hedge against the global chaos
Unlike Egypt, Nigeria has no excuse not to be self-sufficient in basic food production.
I am curious, are there any actual consequences for committing war crimes? What happens to those nations accused of it and who exactly holds these nations accountable?
Hope India upgrades its cold storage infrastructure, reduces wastage and improves distribution of essential food grains across the country.
Post Script- and what about corn and soy being diverted from food to biofuels, that too will be a contributor to a shortage of food.
Agriculture is biggest asset to India must protect and increase farmers...
While food imbalance is a acute problem, the long term weapon over the next two decades will be water.
Self reliance on agriculture and defence must to India
Food was used in the Nigerian Civil War. The East hasn't forgotten. Military casualties was above 500,000 while over 2million civilians died of starvation.
Good to know that India has added more than 100 varieties of Wheat. Diversifying crops lead to sustainability of environment, yield improvement & soil enrichment. India used to have more than 110,000 varieties of Rice & faulty Green revolution killed 90% of the crops & self-reliance of farmers.
Nightmare struck upon India, when having food shortage usa was asked to provide grains, and usa disgracefully provided pig feeding grains along with deathly seedlings of dangerous weeds with the intention to destroy India's food production for decades. Such horrendous are the western nations. May god give them wisdom and character!

In HISTORY we learn to memorize numbers BUT NEVER LEARNED THE LESSONS that's why HISTORY ALWAYS REPEAT ITSELF.
Food inflation and food shortages are linked, but they are not the same thing. The real problem will become apparent when the global food markets simply cannot support the exsting world population at any price. Short version is that serious famine is coming soon to parts of the world.
You are absolutely correct. They are planning and doing that now in the USA.
Glad to be an Indian in India during these tough years
if you are starving and you are offered food by Ukraine or Russia to fight for them, I wonder how many irrespective of their views would just join for the food.
It does not matter what the UN says as long as war is allowed to continue food will always be used as a weapon,. War is a crime.
The problem is is that Western countries, especially the United states, doesn't really care whether or not people suffer as long as they punish russia,
America will punish its own citizens just to punish Russia..
Food prices has skyrocketed in this country.
And I don't think that the American officials really care,
they really really want to hurt russia so badly.. that they are willing to hurt their own citizens..
Churchill caused famine in Bengal, in which 4 million people died. Very similar to Hitler killing 6 million Jews. Because allied forces won the war no one documented this gruesome act.
I am confused on how a nations food staple is one that is 80% imported.
Agriculture should remain backbone of India
Countries have a primary role to ensure food security at home before they could export!
On the other hand Putin's sloppy head holds the higher burden that triggered part of the current grain crisis
So as for the foods of the future, mushrooms are particularly interesting in my opinion because they don't require light. They like it dark and wet.
The reason in Ethiopia is different. The Government in Ethiopia is trying to feed the people in the North but the rebel group intentionally started war on the route of food delivery accused the Government closing it.
