Rs 23,000 crore given to state disaster fund, 50% of it for Covid fight
NEW DELHI: The Centre has allocated over Rs 23,000 crore towards State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the second successive year in 2021-22, half of which has been allowed to be used for Covid pandemic management. Last year, the Centre had released Rs 29,000 crore towards state disaster funds.
Some states like Odisha have been effectively putting this fund to use in disaster mitigation by building resilient infrastructure. The state’s cyclone centres built along its coastal districts served as Covid quarantine centres last year for lakhs of returning migrants. Karnataka on Sunday announced allocation of Rs 15 crore from this fund for purchase of ambulances and other equipment.
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has been often praised for his disaster mitigation efforts. Recently, he received congratulatory messages on Twitter from Mami Mizutori, head of the UN office for disaster risk reduction, for his efforts towards pandemic management and coming to the rescue of other states when they were facing anwith acute oxygen crisis.
As per the recommendation of the 15th finance commission, the go nment changed its policy, shifting its focus from spending just on rescue and relief to building resilient infrastructure.
Annually for last 20 years, India on an average has suffered economic losses of $10 billion to disasters. For the first time the Centre has constituted the National Disaster Risk Management Fund and encouraged states to have their own which will address both response, mitigation and long term recovery.
If the states have not received the fund , you can see them making a ruckus. They are silent becuase they received it. No one knows how the states are spending. There should be an audit on expenditure.
No body believes it now; even if given some states, like West Bengal will divert it to some where else other than disaster
And peoe blame Modi for eveything.
Navin Pattanayak has been building Orisha silently and steadily. Despite its limited resources and despite the whimsical MoHFW, his state is a rival to Ker.
Too much of negativity coming from opposition ruled states and media.
Some states are transferring the funds to the accounts of the dynasty ruling .
Hope the disaster relief amounts received by the states is actually used for the purpose. Delhi, West Bengal and Maharashtra po iticians are certain to syphon the booty away.
Instead of diverting fund to states Centre should divert it for Vaccination. In this way every body could get Vaccine for free.
po iticians must be accountable and responsible
Everybody keeps on blaming State Go nments. Where is the leadership from Federal Go nment. Modi Ji is PM of whole India and every Indian.
where is the proof?
Even if it is true, it is just about the same amount of money used for PM's one residence.
We need to support Govt at this time.
Lot of announcements and promises from centre.
why is there a shortage of Vaccine in this country, considering the 'explosion' of Covid is this country?.well because there are 2 Companies SII & Bharat Biech that are allowed to mass produce the vaccines..
so where are the states spending this much money? there should be accountability for this.
Ne the timing. This is to help Gujarat meet the emergent cyclone situation.
each state should be given 50,000 cr for covid and covid related infrastructures like hospitals, oxygen plants.
Is there any independent confirmation or states acknowledge receiving the funds?
Your health is your own responsibility. No one will help you much.
