India's 'once-in-a-century' budget runs into trouble as Covid strikes back
NEW DELHI: India's annual budget in February was lauded by many and raised hopes it would drive a sharp economic revival, but there are now fears that its promise may fall flat as it did not account for a crippling second wave of Covid-19 infections.
The budget aimed to revive Asia's third-largest economy via investing in infrastructure and health care, while relying on an aggressive privatisation strategy and robust tax collections - on the back of projected growth of 10.5% - to fund its spending in the fiscal year.
Finance minister Nirm Sitharn said India would not see such a budget in "100 years". At the time, a massive Covid-19 vaccination drive and a rebound in consumer demand and investments had put the economy on track to recover from its deepest recorded slump.
The South Asian country is battling the world's second highest coronavir s caseload after the United States, recording some 300,000 cases and about 4,000 deaths a day. With many parts of the country under varying degrees of lockdown, most of the growth projections that the budget was built around are now mired in uncertainty.
The extent of the crisis is even making investors question whether after years of de t accumulation, India once expected to become an economic superpower, still deserves to cling on to its 'investment grade' status.
We need intellectual people to be able to handle this type of situation. Feku can only distract and eventually blame Nehru for all the mess that he would leave for India.
India is bound to be doomed by current dispensation led by illiterate leader.
People are crazy to expect miracle from illiterate modi who did not even pass third standard. He is good for only one thing and that is how to instigate equally illiterate bhkats to hate and kill minorities. You ved him in, you suffer the consequences.
Pappu Pass or Fail
No need to worry.. Modi economic policy will make Petrol to taste 200 per liter...and country will be back to hand cart...bullock cart...horse carriage...etc...back to past 1900 era...but he will have brand new house...and swanky plan to fly around.
Economy was doing very well before 2014, it would have been doing well if modi had left untouched about Manmohan Singhs economic policies. But no, this feku thought he was brilliant than Harvard grad Singh. Bought nonsense policies like Demonetization which crippled our economy.
MODI HAS COME ACROSS AS ONE OF THE WORST LEADERS EVER NOT ONLY IN INDIA BUT ACROSS CENTURIES ACROSS THE WORLD
Once in century jumla team.
There was nothing great in this once in a century budget excepting selling off PSUs.
when vaccine certificates can have Modi's photo , then why not body bags , after all even that's Modi's gift to the Indians...
The biggest blunder of the century is to handover finance dept to the most inexperienced and undeserving nirm sitharn sed by our PM and HM they wanted a person like her to be a puppet in their hands but unfortunately the nation paid a huge price
one - in - a - century we also see such a Senseless , arrogant and panoti PM
Feku should be given noble prize in mishandling covid and killing hundreds and thousands of people.
Blame the langotichaps for giving a sword in the hands of an illeterate
and still we have money for the vanity projects like Vista project and bullet train
BJP is known for making talk cms and jhumlas. Nothing really new in this cm off once in 100 years budget.
Once in a century PM is to blame for it.
Covid is now just an excuse for MODI. Without covid also economy was in a mess. Demonitization shrink the GDP , the gap between rich and poor increase, SME suffers a lot, Rupee got evaluated ag inst dollar ... may be worst budget of 100 years
dont worry brainless BJP bhakts. garbage Modi will have the perfect excuse and sob story to convince u to ve for garbageism again
Next time you see Feku throw an egg or chappal at him.
RG and Nehru must be behind this
Modi should resign, he has failed completely. India cant bear his jhoomla. he should resign for the larger interest of the nation.
