Bengaluru sees spurt in U-10 children testing Covid +ve
BENGALURU: As the number of Covid-19 cases surge in Bengaluru, more children aged below 10 are turning positive. This month, 472 kids in that age bracket have tested positive for Covid-19, and the number is expected to cross 500 over the weekend. Of the 472 cases, 244 are boys and 228 girls.
Experts say the second wave has hit children hard as, unlike last year, many are spending time outdoors. Families, in general, are moving about a lot more, which has increased the chances of transmission.
A member of Karnataka’s technical advisory committee on Covid-19 told TOI that he was not surprised by the increasing number of infections among children.
“A year ago, cases among children were not this high as they were not exposed to the virus. During the lockdown, they were confined to their homes. Now, they visit parks or play in the common areas of their apartment complex,” the member said, adding that children could become carriers of coronavirus too.
Experts say it’s tough to make children properly wear masks and follow physical distancing.
In the first week of March, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) recorded eight to 11 Covid-19 cases a day among children aged under 10. In the past week, the cases have ranged from 32 to 46 per day.
It may be the natural way for children to improve their immunity. Children below ten used to get several viral infections during an academic year.
I m surprised that despite such huge gathering in election bound states.... we do not see rise in covid cases, but elsewhere , newspapers are full of rise in cases.
K’taka govt should stop offline classes and resume online classes for children in schools.
It does not make sense to send kids out to schools amidst the second wave.
Why schools are not closed like TN in Bangalore ?
I think there are many groups with vested interest to cause panic among people and such news are encouraged by those groups. Here, for instance, could be the group of school administration itself because they don't want to open the school and continue minting money with online classes.
This is an age wherein the immunity is not very high and why these kids are going to school and why parents are sending them to school
However scared the media wants us to be , we can't afford another lockdown , Period .
This is because of the stupid decision to open schools in Bengaluru! Who should be held accountable for this crime?
so.what, corona is just a seasonal viral flu
Children always got the virus but thankfully their mortality rate is very less. Why are you spreading unnecessary fear? Reveal the mortality rate of children. Completely biased reporting
It's all because of schools reopening. Why???
How these children will fight this scary virus. It's all on the education minister. Schools are not safe as they say it is. Please consider these news and close down the schools please. Variant from Brazil has also effected under 10 children which is really dangerous at this moment. Children are more vulnerable at this point than any other.
boycott and ban their products
I see a lot of status updates from my friends where they are taking their kids below 5yrs to restaurants and on trips. making them sit on the tables , roam around without masks. so what results do you expect!!!?
Experts r like sea wave ..dey will say anthng to make u feared
are the kids symptomatic or asymptomatic? I guess most of them are asymptomatic except one or two. See - a virus in the environment can always be found in you, but is it making you severely sick?
