Exports contract for 6th straight month, drop 1.66% in January; trade deficit widens
NEW DELHI: The country's exports dropped 1.66 per cent to $25.97 billion in January, the sixth straight month of contraction, on account of a significant fall in shipments of petroleum, plastic, carpet, gems and jewellery, and leather products.
Imports also fell for the eighth consecutive months, down 0.75 per cent to $41.14 billion in January, widening the trade deficit to a seven-month high of $15.17 billion, according to the go nment data released on Friday.
Who cares? Every media house seems obsessed with Pakistan, Hindu-Muslim, CAA, NRC, elections and now the utterly ridiculous Kem Cho Trump circus !!
Contraction? No Sir, Gujju talk is expanding day by day. How long do we have to put up with this man and his stupidities? May be till all the bhakts go hungry.
please write only about hindutva...bhakts are not interested in reality check...
feku and company always deceiving us
During 2012-13, the Manmohan Singh govt was often accused of 'Policy Paralysis' and rightly so. What about today?
Its funny that we put up with this govt despite their sheer incompetence just because of the hindutva card. No country that uses religion has ever prospered but do we learn from it????
Imports and Exports are contracting. IIP has grown by 0.5% from april to jan. CPI,moved upto 4.6% in the same period.,But,this inept govt, indulges in CAA,NRC,NPR,Shaheen bagh, arrests under PSA and NSA,Nehru/Patel differences.,Throw this Modi Shahrkar out. The economy will improve
Try exporting gobar cakes. Your whole BJP cabinet ministers are experts on this topic. It is part of their everyday diet.
It was bound to happen, Govt only knows how to harass SME's through their pet departments IT & GST... If you export services then there should not be GST charged
This exports contraction will only get worse from now on. No one makes money from just manufacturing in India using old technology and untold manual labor. China on the other hand has mass production in automatic mode. There is no way India can compete with China on this with the current set up. India doesn't have the machinery to make manufacturing items in large quantities to make a profit.

Trump is coming. Modi will negotiate such a deal that Indian exports will just 'rocket up'.
Why do you just focus on textiles and leather garments? Look at China. Go to any big box retail outlets in US. 70% of the goods are from China. Make effort to capture that market. Even ready made garments from Bangladesh is superior to India
Good job done by the current re gie, hope this re gie goes out of power before we filled for bankruptcy of the country.
