Too small to fight against India: Malaysian PM on palm oil ban
Malaysia will not take retaliatory trade action against India over its boycott of palm oil purchases amid a political row between the two countries, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Monday.
India, the world's largest edible oil buyer, this month effectively halted imports from its largest supplier and the world's second-biggest producer in response to comments from Mahathir attacking India's domestic policies.
"We are too small to take retaliatory action," Mahathir told reporters in Langkawi, a resort island off the western coast of Malaysia. "We have to find ways and means to overcome that," he added.
The 94-year-old premier of Muslim-majority Malaysia has criticised New Delhi's citizenship law and Kashmir action.
Mahathir again criticised India's citizenship law on Monday, saying he believed it was "grossly unfair".
India has been Malaysia's largest palm oil market for the past five years, presenting the Southeast Asian country with a major challenge in finding new buyers for its palm oil.
Benchmark Malaysian palm futures fell nearly 10% last week, their biggest weekly decline in more than 11 years.
New Delhi is also unhappy with Malaysia's refusal to revoke permanent resident status for controversial Indian Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, who has lived in Malaysia for about three years and faces charges of money laundering and hate speech in India.
新德里还对马来西亚拒绝取消有争议的印度ysl牧师Zakir Naik的永久居民身份感到不满。Zakir Naik在马来西亚生活了大约3年，他在印度面临洗钱和仇恨言论的指控。
Mahathir said even if the Indian go nment guarantees a fair trial, Naik faces the real threat of vigilante action and that Malaysia will only relocate the preacher if it can find a third country where he would be safe.
"If we can find a place for him, we will send him out."

Aggressive stance against Malaysia is much needed, India is no pushover.
Then bloody why you are giving foolish statements like big hero? Religious bigot Malasian pm Mahatir Mohammad
Fool statements make punishment to their country, carry on with your bakwas and get treatment
Now Malaysia will face the music and India will become self depending
do business not politics......CCA is need of india
Mahathir has turned a blind eye to the plight of Uighurs and Rohingiya's and only choses to target India. If he is aiming to be the Ayatollah of the new Islamic order then he should desist such discrimination. Also, he is protecting the preacher of hatered which shows that his brand of humanitarianism is restricted to only one religion.
Really? But you do have a huge attitude and a long and toxic tongue to interfere in other countries internal affairs? It's high time, India needed to flex it's might. Not in favour of doing this in a global scenario but he left us no choice.

World Economic Forum says over half of the world's GDP (That is around 44 Trillion USD ) is highly or moderately dependent on nature. So We have to focus on bigger picture, stay focussed , change priority and stop conflicting among us . Nature and environment should become the urgent , common GLOBAL TOP PRIORITY.One WORLD ....ONly ONE PRAYER....PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE . WE together need to conquer human pain, poverty and share the world calmly with peace and happiness by following the Gandhian path of Truth, Unity, Non-violence ,Non-Alcoholism, Values, Ethics and simplicity.Faith in Universal brotherhood to realise shared dreams is the only road map at sight.
Dr. Mahathir is an ethical and erudite leader. A tall and inspirational figure of Asia.

In retaliation,if leaders and policy makers are flexing their muscles with Economic power,it is sad and incorrect. An interconnected,Interlocked and interdependent nations in Global village do not think, believe, behave and operate this way.It makes mockery of Universal co-existence.Patiently listening to surrounding criticism is a sign of maturity and a good opportunity to correct mistakes. Alas!By the time the world realise too much"National Patriotism itself is one dangerous form of Global terrorism, the world, its environment will most likely get affected beyond repair. When National patriotism becomes bigger priority than Global patriotism,Environment gets orphaned,Peace gets back seat, and the respect for Global institutions gets diminished. So let's start thinking & behaving like Global Citizens.BTW,1 in every 300 persons worldwide is a refugee. In 2017,about 0.3 per cent of the global population was a refugee. The world counted 258 million international migrants in 2017,representing 3.4% of global population. The top 10 countries of origin account for one third of all international migrants. In 2017, with 16.6 million persons living abroad,India was the leading country of origin of international migrants.Migrants from Mexico constituted the second largest “diaspora” in the world (13.0M),followed by those from the Russian Federation (10.6 M),China (10.0M),Bangladesh (7.5 M),the Syrian Arab Republic(6.9M),Pakistan (6.0M) Ukraine(5.9M),the Philippines (5.7 M)&UK(4.9M)
All the diversity you talk about Malaysia belong to Malaysian culture which originated British era and mahatir alone cannot claim credit for it.
This senile old psycho has plans to take Malaysia back to medieval times. Seems he is very insecure about his faith, to be running a country that has no room to accept other deep rooted and long standing faiths or cultures. Is fundamentalism triggering a guilty conscience with this just another nut? God is never pleased when running down other faiths of his own creation. On judgement day, He will tell him to shut up, I am not so insecure.
This is a stupid PM, Malaysia has seen ever. CAA issue is an India's internal matter. What the hell he up the ante against India on this issue. Its foreign trade is mostly dependent on India's vast market of palm oil export. Now for nothing Malaysia is going to loose that market.
Why don't some people keep their mouth shut?Let India make its own rules &run it as suitable for them& not to poke their nose in other countries affairs. The same is expected from Malaysia. It seems Malaysia does not have any internal problem that is why the PM is free &has all the time to poke his nose in India's internal matters.Mr Mahathir Honarable PM why don't you oil your own machine & let the people of India manage their own affairs.
India is spending every year over 10 billion dollars importing palm oil. It is high time the go nment gave adequate incentives for farmers to grow Sun Flower crop. With three high yielding crops a year, 5 lakh acres can eliminate this huge forex expenditure on palm il. What is holding back the go nment from doing this ?
If Malaysian PM still doesn't behave we should cut tourism to that country.
if you know your limitations than keep your mouth shut, don't need your comments on India
This should have happened when he commented about Kashmir
This issue of palm oil diplomacy should be an eye-opener for us. While it is a fact that no nation can produce all the goods and in a globalised world goods are procured from all over the world,at least self sufficiency and self reliance in food is absolutely necessary. If we could achieve marvellous results in food grains and milk through green Revolution and white Revolution, there is no reason why we cannot be self sufficient in other produces by adopting modern methods of science and tech in agriculture. Another agriculture Revolution holistically speaking is overdue for which we have harness the talents agricultural scientists like Sri. MS Swaminathan and the lage Dr. Kurien and we must have many of them wasting somewhere due to lack official encouragement and politics. The death of Vashistha Narayan Singh recently, the unsung hero and genius is a sad commentary on the State of science in our country.
Malaysia harbours extremists and terrorists like Zakir Naik who escaped from India into that country and Malaysia expects no retaliation ??? Sorry, it does not work that way.
If Malaysian PM feels Malaysia is small, then why he dares to comment on India's internal matters ? Banning of palm oil imports is right step taken by India. More trade barriers can also be imposed on Malaysia.
We were buying Palm Oil from Malaysia because it was cheaper 15% cheaper than buying from other countries. Now we pay 15% extra to get the Palm Oil. Who is the loser? All ego clashes politcians. Consumer is the loser.
trade war .. restrictions are like poison it doesn't help any country.its all about who can take damage and who cant.
Respect to a Nation's comes first than personal comments. It may be cool matter for you to accept and keep silent to watch a 3rd person comment on internal issues but its non-negotiable matter for me.
If Mahatir had been too small he would have kept quiet internal affairs of India. India did the right thing.
Godrej Agrovet is world's largest producer of Palm oil. Malaysian Old man of 94 years don't mess with India. Now keep Palm oil and use it for.......Great
This old man of Malaysia dared to comment on other country's internal matters, which was not his jurisdiction. Finally, the eccentric old man's faith/religion gave him in and he spilled out something inimical to his country's interest. On the same, if he was so much concerned about CAA in India, why is he supporting the fugitive so-called reigious fanatic, Zakir Naik, by keeping him safely in his country? India has responded well to his misdemeanour and the country got where it hurts the most. Now grease your palm oil, old man!
India is self reliant in palm oil. Godrej Agrovet is world's largest producer of Palm oil here
We want to become 5 Trillion dollar economy by 2024 but we are not self sufficient in edible oil.We are forced to import it from other country. Our imports are more than our exports which imbalance the CAD.Malaysia is our neighbouring country but its economy is very strong. We are big in population but poor in standard of living.
