Battle of billionaires? 2020 US polls could see Trump-Bloomberg face-off
WASHINGTON: The 2020 US Presidential elections could end up as a clash between two New York City billionaires.
With nearly a dozen Democratic candidates vying for the party nomination to challenge incumbent Donald Trump, and no clear frontrunner, the former NYC Mayor threw his hat into the ring late in the race on Sunday, saying Americans "cannot afford four more years of President Trump's reckless and unethical actions."
"He represents an existential threat to our country and our values. If he wins another term in office, we may never recover from the damage. The stakes could not be higher. We must win this election. And we must begin rebuilding America."
Bloomberg said in a post on his campaign website announcing his decision to run, adding that his "unique set of experiences in business, go nment, and philanthropy will enable me to win and lead."
"As a candidate, I’ll rally a broad and diverse coalition of Americans to win. And as president, I have the skills to fix what is broken in our great nation. And there is a lot broken," he said.
Bloomberg's late call is a reversal of his earlier decision not to run, and it comes after months of Democratic scrapping for the party nomination has failed to throw up a clear leader.
Although former vice-president is considered the front-runner, some polls have shown Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren leading in some surveys. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who lost the nomination race to Hillary Clinton in 2016 is also among the top three, and more recently South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, has polled well in some surveys
But overall, there are doubts over whether any one of them has the goods to beat Donald Trump, who remains a shoe-in for the Republican nomination and brags all the time about how easily he will win the 2020 race.
"I offer myself as a doer and a problem solver – not a talker," Bloomberg said.
Bloomberg, who at 77 will be some six months older than Joe Biden (already the oldest candidate in the race) is an entrepreneur who made his fortune creating technology that bankers and traders use to access market data.

At the existing conditions nobody will be able to defeat Trump. Trump has indeed fought for America that is exactly what matters.

Trump is sure to be re-elected.It is very doubtful ,if it will be Bloomberg that will face him from the Democratic side. What with the impeachment mess, socialist extremism and moderate Obamism, the Democrats are a divided and confused lot !

Wrong my friend. Bloomberg could buy out Donald Trump with his petty cash. Michael Rubens Bloomberg is an American politician, businessman, author, and philanthropist. As of November 2019, his net worth was estimated at $58 billion, making him the 9th richest person in the United States and the 14th richest person in the world.
