India relaxes procedure to speed up arms sales to friendly foreign nations

NEW DELHI: India has finalised a new system to speed up sale of military equipment to friendly countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Myanmar and others through defence lines of credit (LoC), which is akin to the much-touted foreign military sales (FMS) programme of the US.

新德里:印度已敲定一套新体系，旨在通过授予信贷额度，加快向孟加拉国、越南、斯里兰卡、阿富汗、缅甸等友好国家出售军备，这类似于美国备受吹捧的对外军售计划(FMS)。

This will not only help India boost its arms exports, which are almost negligible as of now, but also prevent third parties like from undercutting India in countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar in terms of weapon supplies.

这不仅将帮助印度增加武器出口，而且还将防止像这样的第三方在武器供应方面削弱印度在孟加拉国、斯里兰卡和缅甸等国的地位。目前印度的武器出口几乎微不足道。

India, of course, cannot hope to match in terms of arms exports, grappling as it continues to do with the strategically-vulnerable position of being the world’s largest arms importer due to a fledgling indigenous defence industrial base.

Thats the another benefit of having Modi government for the second term. They do not need to change staff, policy or waste time in transition. Buerocracy also knows what government is expecting from them and they also do not need to adjust with new regime. Government policy will continue without any change, and in progress tasks will continue without any hick ups.

The very fact that we are in a position to export defence equipment makes me proud. I had read somewhere that we are the world’s largest importers of defence equipment. I do not know what defence items we are thinking of exporting, but it gives me a hope that some day we will be self sufficient.
