Railways fined for evicting man for ‘3013’ ticket
A 73-year-old man was on Tuesday awarded compensation by a consumer court in Saharanpur
Vishnu Kant Shukla, had boarded Himgiri Express for a journey from Saharanpur to Jaunpur on Nov 19, 2013
He was forcibly evicted from the train because his ticket was wrongly dated 1,000 years in the future
MEERUT: A 73-year-old man who was forcibly evicted from a train because his ticket was wrongly dated 1,000 years in the future was on Tuesday awarded compensation by a consumer court in Saharanpur.
Vishnu Kant Shukla, a retired professor, had boarded Himgiri Express for a journey from Saharanpur to Jaunpur on November 19, 2013.
The train ticket examiner (TTE) however, found Shukla’s ticket was dated for 3013, and removed Shukla from the train at Moradabad.
Shukla told TOI, “I retired as head of the Hindi department from JV Jain Degree College in Saharanpur. In short, I am not a person who would travel by train with a fake ticket and here was a TTE who humiliated me in front of everyone, demanded I pay a penalty of Rs 800, and even got me evicted from the train. It was an important journey as I had to visit my friend whose wife had expired.”
The case went on for five long years. On Tuesday, the court decided in favour of Shukla and slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the Railways for causing mental harassment an additional Rs 3,000 compensation.
The court observed, “To de-board a person of an advanced age in the middle of a journey causes a great amount of physical strain and mental harassment. This clearly shows there were flaws in services provided by the department.”
Railways officials declined to comment on the matter.

It took 5 years for the court to reach this conclusion? Ironically the court also pointed at the ''flaws in service provided by railways''. What about the service provided by the court?

What about the Railway Employee who issued such ticket. He must be eating samosas while preparing tickets why he should not dismissed and his pension stopped
Atish Das-15 hours ago
What about the action against the TTE for his inhuman behaviour and the system operators and engineers for the wrong printing?

fine should be more than 1000000 what a nonsense fine

Why such a long time by Courts? Justice delayed is justice denied.
Jeet-8 hours ago
13K fine is too too less. It should be 5 lakh and 50% should be from the salary/pension of that arrogant TT.

Crazy judiciary system of india takes 5 years to give judgement

The consumer Court is also denying justice : the guilt of railways is clear, what took the court 5 years ?
Pramod Patra-Sambalpur-15 hours ago
The TTE should apply his mind by taking the photo of the ticket and send it to the concerned authority by what''s up and try to solve the problem. Pkpatra

this judgement shouldn't have taken more than 5 weeks. 5 years is preposterous.

Rs.10000 . That would be the total petrol price for him to go back home after attending every court hearing. Our courts really crack me up. Always keeps it funny.

Shame on the consumer court for taking 5 years for a small issue.

It seems justice given was a joke. After waiting for five year and awarding only 10000 rupees is shame on justice system .Railway Authority should have fined 10lakhs or more.

No one suffered more than this poor passenger who did the right thing by buying the ticket. Surprisingly, nothing has happened to the person who issued a ticket with a wrong date; the person who programmed the ticket; the person who evacuated this gentleman from the train in the middle of journey; and nothing happened to the judiciary who took 5 years in handling a case which could have been decided in 5 minues. And, look at the amount of compensation! What can you do in Rs 10,000 these days? He should have been awarded at least Rs 1 lakh, I reckon!

It takes 5yrs for a mere justice for a ticket.. Think about companies not paying the labor nor the big cows like mallaya and nirav esca with 1000crs worth of money..

The compensation is too meagre, After causing pain for long 4 years.Shame on the Railway officials for dragging the case for such long time.It should have been settled in one weak, with an apology and refund with a compensation.!Bloody fools could not find time to read his complaint?

The fine should be 1 Crore. It''s a blunder committed by an idiot which caused humiliation and discomfort to a senior citizen.

We need to make sure that the penalty is paid in 2018 and not 3018.

Uncle ji is an inspiration to many. Many of us would have just cursed the TTE and railways and moved on. This gentleman slapped a case on them and followed it to conclusion which is commendable. I also feel the TTE who evicted a senior citizen should also be punished, probably make him pay the compensation

Railway should be penalised more than Rs. 8 lacs.
Smarty-8 hours ago
It is an obvious mistake in printing.
The TTE should have recognised it and not harassed the gentleman.
He should be held responsible .
Sankepally Rajainder Reddy-9 hours ago
the brainless TTE must be removed from service forthwith. the compensation awarded by the court should be recovered from that TTE
Mahendra-KOLKATA-11 hours ago
TTE should also have been punished personally. Only Railways can commit such silly mistakes in printing. Jai Hind.

5 years in a consumer court itself is mental and physical harrassment! The court should also be fined. Moreover, the incident happened under UPA but NDA has to pay the fine!

After Five years judgement is being issued in such a simple case. India going Digital !!! That too a compensation of Rs.10000 only. What a joke! !!

A stupid TTE has no commonsense to understand that it is a printing mistake and an idiot took five years to understand it. Why are such people appointed in responsible position?
Tara Chand-New Delhi-13 hours ago
The TT should have been punished fir debording a aged person and humiliation in front of public with no mistake of his..Did any other person came to claim his seat,no it means that was his seat.

Meek judgement and peanut compensation after half a decade. Judiciary again proves the biggest problem in the country.
Gstmd Kc-17 hours ago
The problem is not with the railway but with the consumer court. If they take five years to settle such a simple case, it is court''s fault. This is why people avoid court.
Debtanu Das-Siliguri,West Bengal-11 hours ago
my question is was the TTE so much ill trained that he can't make out which one is original and which one is fake !! And hats off, it took 5 years to give a man justice..So pathetic..
