I have extensively observed in the villages, the prosperity is only with rich farmers and Money Lenders. Unless the Money Lenders have not been put and punished under strict laws it is not possible to stop farmers suicides. They charge 10-50% per month interest which the farmers are not able to pay and commit suicides. In one case in Marathwada few Money Lenders beaten and threaten the farmer if the money is not paid they will take away his wife then after 1-2 days he had committed suicide.

Overall, official statistics show that since 2001, one Indian farmer has committed suicide every half hour. More authorative studies in india examined farmer suicides in India between the years of 1997 and 2006. According to that study, “Going by the official data, on average nearly 16,000 farmers committed suicide every year over the last decade or so. It is also clear from the table that every seventh suicide in the country was a farm suicide. Activists and scholars have offered a number of conflicting reasons for farmer suicides, such as monsoon failure, high debt burdens, genetically modified crops, government policies, public mental health, personal issues and family problems etc., More than 270,000 Indian cotton farmers have killed themselves since 1995. Campaigners say a contributing factor may be the high price of genetically modified seeds flooding the market, which is piling pressure on poorly paid growers, forcing many into a cycle of unmanageable debt. The govt. needs to give more importance since this field fulfils the common man necessity.
