原文标题：Year of the Dragon leads to baby rush in China
BEIJING: China's birth rate is expected to be a record high in 2012 as young couples are rushing to have what is regarded as a golden dragon baby during the year of the dragon that began the Chinese New Year on January 23.
The rush to have children born with the auspicious zodiac sign hides a deep seated political desire for greater freedom, analysts said.
The dragon personality is someone with a free spirit, who creates his own rules. A person born in the year of the dragon is perceived to be a special one in a country where obedience to authority is the basic tenet. They are expected to reach positions of power through their own creativity and flamboyance, according to Zodiac definitions accepted by the Chinese.
Hospitals are reporting that would-be parents are trying to book their places in advance. Maternity wards in Shanghai were overcrowded during the first few days of the lunar year.
Every bed in Beijing's large Maternity Hospital has been booked till August. "The rush to have babies in this year demonstrates a rising desire among young Chinese for more freedom and democracy", a senior professor said.
Yes the year of dragon is considered lucky in China, but relating it to chinese freedom and democracy is sheer non-sense. Dragon baby are considerd to do well in top level job and it corresponds Power ( not exactly wealth). A stupid article but partially true , many chinese couple are planning child this year and imagine the level of competition once all these kids will compete for top universities ...lol.......... How I know all this ?........... I am Indian , having a chinese wife and will become proud father of a dragon baby soon.

Most silly article. They give deep psychological advice that Chinese are doing it for freedom, etc. Nonsense! The Year of Dragon is most auspicious period in Chinese calendar. Baby born in this year is the luckiest, according to tradition. So parents are having baby now. No deep freedom reason or other nonsense.

Sheer wastage of time ... Only & Only , the Almighty determines the fate of a person.... Those who lacks complete belief in the Almighty runs to Palmists & Fortune tellers ......
For us Indians , every year is a year of the dragon !

Friend of mine also told me the same. It looks like they believe it well.
Wile in the Pacific (The Pacific)
I wonder if the Peoples Liberation Army have plans to move into the Pacific region this being the Year Of The Dragon? Much is symbolic in China. Maybe a military excursion to coincide with the symbolism of the Dragon?

So, we will find empty streets in China.... as everyone will be engaged in to and fro motion :-).
所以，我们在中国将看到空荡荡的街道...因为每个人都在忙于“往复运动”。 （难道是床上运动）
Wow. In this "news" item, an ancient Chinese superstition has been interpreted as being a desire for political freedom. The writer needs to tell us who the learned "analysts" are who told him this, or whether he just cooked up this story as he had a deadline to meet.
So solly, we have more babee in year of dlagon, so we need Alunachal Pladesh and your entire northeast for expansion...
