外文标题：Tourist arrivals in India up 4.5%, most come from US
NEW DELHI: Foreign tourist arrivals to India grew by about 4.5% from 6.30 million in 2011 to 6.57 million in 2012. While this is a sharp drop from the about 9% growth that was seen in 2011 as compared to 2010, it is still twice the world average according to latest data from the Bureau of Immigration.
Incidentally, the US continued as the top source country, reaching 1 million tourists in 2012. In comparison, tourists from the UK, Sri Lanka and Malaysia came down in 2012.
The top 10 source markets remained the same. The US and the UK were followed by Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, Australia and Malaysia.
The number of tourists from the US in 2012 was 1.03 million, up from 0.98 million in 2011 while visitors from Bangladesh increased from 0.46 million to 0.48 million. Travelers from the UK decreased marginally from 0.79 million to 0.78 million as did those from Sri Lanka, dropping from 0.30 million to 0.29 million in 2012. Malaysia ranked at 10 from last year's eighth position and saw a drop from 0.20 million tourists to 0.19 million.
Tourists from Canada remained about the same at 0.25 million while tourists from Germany increased from 0.24 million to 0.25 million. France registered an increase with 0.24 million tourists in 2012 while Japan saw 0.22 million tourists from 0.19 million.
Despite the increase in foreign tourists, India's share of international tourist arrivals continues to be about 0.64% in the world with smaller countries in southeast Asia attracting far more visitors.

India is attracting tourists where Pakistan is repelling tourists. Isn't that obvious? By the way the money Pakistan gets from US is it hard earned money or Pakistan did beg for?

Prince Charming, tourists are better informed than you. They would in any case avoid going to Pakistan with bomb blasts and shootings every other day. Grapes are sour.

These tourists from USA are the NRIs who have taken US citizenship. These NRI make multiple trips in a year. Except for them who in theit right mind wants to come to 'RAPISTAN"

India is a beautiful country and there is so much to see in every state. There is just one thing that drives tourists away - cleanliness. I wish there was a way we could literally deep-clean every inch of the country.

If all people on a tourist visa are considered tourists, then quite likely the number includes people who immigrate to U.S., became U.S. citizen and visiting their place of origin. The data is probably a bit skewed; not sure whether there is any easy way to filter them out to identify the real tourists. Well, everybody entering India will be spending money in India so I guess their origins probably do not matter as I earlier believed...

This is not entirely true. They just count the number of total foreign arrivals during a calender year. Even by that standard, We fare pathetically. For example, Singapore which just the size of Ahmedabad, attracts 19 million tourists, Or Malaysia with population of just 2% that of India attracts 25 million foreign arrivals. our country is so vast and so diverse that it can offer a world to tourists but........ yes, who cares??

These nos will be based on tourist visas issued. Also, Indians with foreign nationality will be provided with OCI card (Overseas Citizen of India). They are not considered as tourists.
It seems they don't fear r@pe, that's why they are still coming to India. Someone should remind them of all the rapes, India isn't safe for foreign white tourist. Indian men especially go mad like a rabid dog at the sight of white skin, they start salivating and braking until they get their hands on them. That's the unfortunate picture today.

Hope those from U.S. are not Christian missionaries. Also I bet over 90% of the Bangladeshi's do not return back to their country and instead settle in India and multiply like a virus to infect the entire country with terrorism.
