外文标题：South Korea expands its air zone to hit back at China
BEIJING: South Korea announced on Sunday that it will extend its existing air defence zone to areas covered by the defence zone announced by China a couple of weeks ago.
Seoul has also said that its decision was after consultation with the US. China did not react immediately is trying to analyse the emerging situation, sources said.
The South Korean move is expected to boost the position of Japan which has been opposing Beijing's air defence identification zone (ADIZ). South Korea said it would work to avoid military confrontation in the region and its decision would not affect its relationship with Beijing. "We believe this will not significantly impact our relationships with China and with Japan as we try to work for peace and cooperation in Northeast Asia," Jang Hyuk, the head of policy in South Korea's defence ministry, said.
South Korea's extended defence zone which comes into effect on December 15 also overlaps Japan's defence zone. The move will create some confusion for commercial and military aircrafts flying in the overlapping zones.
South Korea had objected to China's ADIZ but its opposition was not as vitriolic as the statements issued by Japan and the US. On Sunday, Seoul maintained its move would not affect its relationship with China.
Jang said Seoul had already explained its position to the neighbouring countries, and "they are in agreement that this move complies with international regulations and is not an excessive measure".
Speaking two days before Seoul's decision, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei had said on Friday that any move by South Korea must "accord with international law and norms".
Maintaining status quo is the only way to maintain peace.. If the countries get greedy about things that might have just fallen into their hands if things had just gone their way in the past, its going to start the full cycle of hatred once again..

Good counter step taken by S.Korea. Hope other Asian countries follow suit to teach the chinese a lesson
If all other east Asian countries do the same and adopt new air defense zone in their area then this stubborn and egoistic country will understand

Great, now when does Taiwan announce it's own overlapping air defence zone? This game is getting really interesting!

Indian leaders must take few lessons of bravery, boldness and patriotism from South Korea.

Looks like China is turning a little rogue. It's good to contain the situation right at the beginning. Make them realize that they are not a super power.
When it suits, China abides by international laws and norms and when it doesn't it does things its own way and ignores these same laws and norms as shown in its claims to most of the South & East China Seas .
