India inaugurates Delhi to Mumbai expressway amid infrastructure push to catch up with China
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first stage of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway on February 12, 2023. The 1,386km (861 miles) route is the country’s longest expressway, and will cut travel time between the two major cities in half, to about 12 hours. The US$13 billion project is part of New Delhi’s infrastructure push to catch up with geopolitical rival China.
As an Indian we don't want to be a competitor or an enemy of China and please don't put it that way, we all just want a developed and happy India and we're working hard for it. Love to all
India media: china china china china
That's great to see! Hopefully India implement more cleanliness practices as well and things will really start to look amazing for the country, which has already made huge strides in the past few years! I don't know if "to catch up with China" is an accurate way of putting things. They just want to be more developed as a country in general. Not everything is about competition
cleanliness does not exst in indian vocabulary
Rich people don’t stay unclean... as more Indians come out of poverty they would start focusing more on cleanliness as well
India is indeed a develo country.
How do you define develo?
@Priyank Saikia improving the living conditions
Let’s put it this way...China is a developed country, India is still develo....
India is not classified as develo country.. it's considered as lower middle income country as per world bank.
@Hi buddy. Who said you that lowered middle income countries are not develo country? your grandmother?
Have you ever been to China ? If China is not a developed country, then no other country in this world is developed as well.
Yes, we saw how developed china were during the recent covid surge !
Roads and bridges might seem boring, but infrastructure is a country's backbone! :)
it took india 75 years to realise that. guess building temples is more important for them haha
Congratulations India, you guys have come a long way since 1991, extremely proud of your nation
That's amazing! An expressway link between two of the globe's biggest cities was absolutely crucial; kudos India.
Until mid 2010s, Indian leadership class were asleep at the wheel. Thanks to China, they have woken up it seems. Nothing gets humans going like competition and survival.
There’s a popular saying in China, “the road to prosperity goes through highways and expressway.”
Kind of shocking to learn india doesn't have roads linking their two biggest cities. In the US, there's highway 66 linking Chicago to Los Angeles that runs 2448 miles compared to india's expressway of 861 and China has highways and rails linking all their major cities across the country.
shaken not stirred
There's no comparison. Really foolish for SC to compare this to China's infrastructure development which is miles ahead. China's cities are more developed than those in the US.
I don't agree with the US part, but yeah their infrastructure is way better than ours.
The world should start to love CHINA instead of hating. China is leading the world.
Indian roads are the deadliest in the world. India accounts for 22% of all road accident deaths, with just 1% of the world's cars
Infrastructure is the lifeline of the economy and has the most immediate positive effect on the lives of the citizens. Just watch the documentary "Deadliest Roads".
We India do not compete with any northern neighbor. Under BJP and Narendra, Modi India is progressing at all levels.
Nobody wants to compete.we believe in improvement.
Wow, what a excellent Road ways awesome.

It costed india $13 billion to build a 861 mile road?
"Make in India campaign will end China's era as the manufacturing hub of the world..."

Give it another 75 years, india will finally have railroads from Delhi to Mumbai.
I am me
Do they have cars in India?
This is not to compete with China. China has better infrastructure that everyone in India knows. This is to build world class road and rail infrastructure in the country. First high speed line with shinkansen technology is also under construction.
Why every new project in India showed as competition to china?
Can't india build expressway for betterment of its citizens.
India catch up???
Just 1,386km of highways requiring Modi's presence? China completed 8,000km of highways (4 lanes and above) just in 2022 alone lol
You know the difference between India and china right? Happiness can be small or big but it is still the same
