Delhi Covid cases at 40-day high of 299, up 48% in 24 hours

NEW DELHI: Covid-19 cases in Delhi touched a 40-day high on Wednesday with 299 persons testing positive for the viral infection in the last 24 hours. This comes a day after daily cases in the capital crossed 200 for first time since March 10, with a tally of 202 fresh cases.

新冠病例在星期三达到了40天来的最高水平，在过去的24小时内有299人确诊新冠阳性。

The last time the city had logged a higher daily count was on March 4, when 302 cases were recorded from 47,738 tests. Wednesday's total of 299 came of only 12,022 tests done in the last 24 hours at a positivity rate of 2.49% - the second highest in nearly three months. On Tuesday, Delhi's positivity rate stood at 1.71%.

"The actual number of cases may be higher. This is because many people are using home test kits or isolating themselves at home instead of getting RT-PCR tests done," Dr Naveen Dang, the founder and chairman of Dr Dang's Lab, said.

Covid numbers in the capital have been inching up in April. The seven-day average of daily cases has risen from a low of 103 on March 31 to 180 on Wednesday.
