In the midst of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and Moscow's numerous nuclear warnings, a US Senator claimed that the United States is falling behind India, Russia, and China in hypersonic technologies.

What are hypersonic missiles,

A hypersonic missile is a weapon system that flies at least at Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound, and is manoeuvrable, as compared to ballistic missiles, which follow a predetermined trajectory.

Hypersonic Glide Vehicles (HGV) and Hypersonic Cruise Missiles (HCM) are the two types of hypersonic weapons systems. The HGV is launched from a rocket before gliding to the intended target, whilst the hypersonic cruise missile is powered by air breathing high speed engines or'scramjets' after attaining its objective.

什么是高超音速导弹？
