High-Speed Railway (HSR) Construction by Country (1965-2019)
High-speed rail (HSR) is a type of rail transport that runs significantly faster than traditional rail traffic, using an integrated sy em of specialized rolling stock and dedicated tracks. While there is no single standard that applies worldwide, new lines in excess of 250 kilometres per hour (160 mph) and esting lines in excess of 200 kilometres per hour (120 mph) are widely considered to be high-speed.
The first high-speed rail sy em, the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, began operations in Japan in 1964 and was widely known as the bullet train. High-speed trains mostly operate on standard gauge tracks of continuously welded rail on grade-separated -of-way that incorporates a large turning radius in its design, however certain regions with wider legacy railways, such as Russia have sought to develop a high speed railway network in broad gauge.
China really said “you want to see some real speed!”
The number is too old for China, It's HSR runs over 43,000 km in 2020 and the next plan is 76,000km.
Hell yeh.1 year back is too outdated for china
Can I please have an applause here for Finland being in top 10? Ahaha We’re only 5 mil population
Congrats you are an zing country, greetings from Albania
I believe Fin builds HSR to run off next Russian invade.
India is also coming with 25000KM rail track

When we visited China in 2018, we made a point to ride the high speed train from ChangSha to Guilin. It was a fun experience. It was super smooth at 302 km/h.
China is so big that 98% of the population has never seen a high-speed train
@MJI Hahaha, what you said is funny, praise your ignorance
@MJI no, China High-speed rail covers 50% of populations, for the big cities with 1 million population high-speed rail covers 94.7% of them.

Spain is ranked 2th by km of veils, but 1th with over 93% by coverage of the country. Beautiful Spain, one day I will go there.
China: Talk, Plan, implement
India: Talk, talk, talk...plan...stuck at land acquisition, everyone wants to dig from the project
Spain number two.
Have used their high speed sy em extensively. Absolutely incredible including the great metro of Madrid and other cities
Spain does it great! Up Spain
Japan and France really ahead of their time, with V and shinkansen
I still remembered at the past everyone is laughing at china and said that its impossible to build highspeed railway in China
빈첸시오 드 폴
I remember the time when China was begging other nations to share their HSR technology including South Korea (South Korea refused, ha!). Then they started develo their own in a matter of few years.
Spain is zing, you can travel among all his space using only high speed railway
I'm not surprised that China is first, what make me surprised is that how far the gap is
The total length of high speed rail in China is more than the total km of rest of the world all add together. That's how far the gap is. However China is doing poorly with making commercial aircrafts comparing to some other major nations. I guess that is the trade off.
The rise and rise of the Slee Asian giant,
Huge respect for Finland. With a population with 5 milion people and they stay at top 10
Oh my word. China, you are incredible. A no mean feat to achieve so much in the last 15 years or so.
China has more HSR than all the other countries combine multiply by 2
China is getting richer
Love or hate china...
But you have to admire them atlast...
No one can match their speed
China's railway construction is crazy. It wasn't a gradual increase but more of a meteoric rise. It starts in 2003 and in 2007, just takes off and starts surpassing everyone.
I just dont understand why all the Indians pay their all attention to China, why dont you stare at USA, UK, Japan those developed countries?
OMG China got mad in 2007
