A 3D-printed retractable bridge was built in Shanghai, China. See how it can unfold itself from a cylinder.

这座桥被人们命名为万年轮，高度上面是1.1米，重量仅有85公斤，在整个3D打印伸缩桥上面能看到分成了九段的伸缩效果，还有桥的两侧扶手上面有三十六片，整个三角形面板的正反面有十七片的四角形面板，在整个桥面的组成和变化当中看到了整个万年轮的灵活反应

I believe only the the triangular panels are 3D printed. The structure itself mainly comprises of metal sections, perhaps aluminium, and hydraulics components. The 3D panels don't serve much except for aesthetic purpose.

steel can be 3d printed. however this is only done for airplane parts to get different density and allow the body to be lighter. a bridge however does not require this level of weight saving.
