Can't pay Rs 4 lakhs ex gratia amount to Covid-19 victims' kin due to financial constraints: Centre to Supreme Court
NEW DELHI: The central go nment has informed the Supreme Court in an affidavit that ex gratia amount of Rs 4 lakhs cannot be paid to the family members of those who died due to Covid-19, citing financial constraints and other factors.
Earlier on May 24, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to the Centre on hearing petitions seeking direction to the concerned authorities to provide ex gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakhs to the family members of those who have succumbed to the Covid-19 pandemic, as per the ministry of home affairs (MHA) letter in view of Section 12 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
However, the go nment made it clear that it had already made payments and a lot of go nment measures had been introduced for the needy persons.
In its affidavit before the Apex Court, the Centre also submitted that the Central go nment and all the state go nments have spent a huge amount for needy persons to deal with Covid-19 pandemic and their finances are overstretched.
According to a petition filed in the Supreme Court, kee in view the spread of Covid-19 vir s in India and the declaration of Covid- 19 as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), by way of special onetime dispensation, it has been decided to treat it as notified disaster for the purpose of providing assistance under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
The Central Go nment issued a revised list and norms of assistance from SDRF and National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) through its MHA letter and recommended ex gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakhs per deceased person, the petitioner cmed.
If 4 lakh offered obviously corrected real numbers of Covid related death case will start rising and surfacing from all states including Gujarat.
If govt. paid 400000/- per death by the time the pandemic is over it will cost the govt. thousands of crores. Corrupt Babus and officers will ensure most deaths are reported covid deaths. People will want more death as death means money.
If the govt decides to pay compensation i dont think its about the mowny but you will find that the covid death numners will rise atleast 30x ..
Wow 56 inch lip service has 20,000 crores to build his pce with tax payer money but don't have a dime to pay the kins of the covid 2nd wave victims
ha ha even supreme court have become a lauging stock. Does SC have any credibility to be called as as pillar of De acy if they just give such disgusting order.
just take it from garbage modi's and Shah sries.
but can charge 100 bucks a litre for petrol and 180 bucks for sunflower oil
govt can make PM house worth rs 13000 crore. make bullet train worth 1 lakh crore which is of no use to common man. govt can make statues worth rs 500 crore.
What a shameless and irresponsible response from the Go nment.....!
If it can't pay, at least ensure people are quickly vaccinated. There's no commitment on that front as well.
Nobody shall ve for this Illiterate Aatic Person in 2024
But can build new parliment? Where is the logic? During the pandamic tax payer money is wasted in vista.
Where is the PM fund collected ? Is there any accountability where it's spending?
Just don't pay the MP's and MLA's for a month
Scrap the Central Vista and use the money to pay the victim kin
As per current death figures, its 15440 crore rupees. much less than central vista.
The only reason is govt is hiding the data of deaths...once they agree to give 4 lakh real data will come out..So much is the extent of manipulation
Who will pay? Tax payers? Mdcd judges will pay? These bncd judges are jokers
No money. Are you bankrupt? Don't give lame excuses. .
