Go nment close to giving indemnity to foreign vaccine makers like Pfizer: Report
NEW DELHI: India is close to agreeing to grant foreign Covid-19 vaccine makers such as Pfizer Inc prection ag inst legal liability so that it can use their shots in an immunisation campaign that is facing acute shortages, three go nment sources told Reuters.
"Indemnity will be granted," said one of the sources. "If one company gets it then all of them get it."
India invited Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson in April to sell their vaccines after infections rocketed. However, no deal has been signed.
Pfizer has not sold to any country without obtaining indemnity ag inst legal action over any adverse effects of their product.
India has not granted indemnity to any Covid-19 vaccine maker, but the sources, who requested anonymity, said the go nment was having a change of heart.
The go nment has already met one of Pfizer's other key demands by drop a requirement that foreign vaccines undergo local trials.
Another go nment offi al said he expected Pfizer vaccines to be delivered in August. He said initial recipients of foreign shots could be mon ored, before a mass roll-out "once we are sure of its efficacy on Indians."
Neither the foreign or health ministries responded to a request for comment.
Govt. better reconsider its decision & not buckle to the Lutyens/Lobby gang - the same gang will pose queries as to Y it was given. And most impt., in case of any adverse effects/loss of live, the same gang will pass accountability back to GoI.
People did not like when I said “ India needs Pfizer, Pfizer does not need India”. people did not like because of their ego, talking Indian vaccine was better than Pfizer.
Pfizer is not even effective ag inst new variant. Why give indemnity to Pfizer when we know it's of no use.
This should have happened 6 months back.
We always knew that for Modiji foreigners > Indians. He's shown yet again that the lives of Indians are ch enough to waived away.
The ideminity being spoken off simply absolves Pfizer and other foreign vaccine manufacturers of any legal action seeking compensation in case the vaccine has severe adverse effects.
BREAKING NEWS: A Tea vendor has sent Rs. 100 to PM Modi to get his beard shaved. (what a shame).
Hair cut also required. Looking too bad
The best vaccine that is also effective ag inst other variants is COVAN from Bharat Biech. As per my study and research, its the best vaccine in the world.
Vaccine makers asking for indemnity. They have no confidence in their own vaccines?
Quite a turn around in the go nment policy. This means particularly Pfizer has won.
This was inevitable. And delayed.
Sad to see poorvaccination rate in india
Finally this clown is waking up. Already he has delayed the vaccine so much. If you can't manufacture it at least let people have imported vaccines.
Not a good move. They are in the business and making huge profits by all means. No Indemnity
FEKU GOVT SHOULD HAVE ACTED EARLIER - AT LEAST 6 MONTHS BACK- PRODUCTION COULD HAVE STARTED IN INDIA BY NOW. WHO SUES PHARMA COMPANY IN INDIA ANYWAY?
Modiji is handling it very carefully, as opposition is barking on every thing. So public is behind govt in what ever decision taken on vaccination deal an drive.
foreign shots are very costly,,
Indian is better,,
So if we die after taking the vaccine there will be no accountibility?
Why Modi act so late even after working for 24 hours a day ?
Just keep them away for few more months. Then no one needs it ! Never to surrender to the pharma mafia cartel.
